Painted engine colver. How to remove side covers?

My trim? My interior trim is Di-Noc and the engine cowl and valve covers are painted with engine enamel.

Interesting. I just pulled in from a 300 mile road trip and measured the following with my Raytek MT6:
Ambient: 84°F
Oil Temperature: 210 (indicated)

(Black) Hood: 101°F
Left Side Engine Cover: 141°F
Right Side Engine Cover: 131°F
Left Valve Cover: 171°F
Right Valve Cover: 155°F
Engine Block: 208°F
Water Pump: 198°F
Air Filter Cover: 120°F

Odd that we should be so different. I was also surprised at my side-to-side variance. Did you measure both sides and get the same temp for each?

interior looks very classy. that will be my next mod. not too sure about leaving the grey piece around the stick. i think thats the worse part of my interior. hate all the grey plastic. but then i dont want to overkill on the cf ???? decisions decisions. think i will play around and see

Wow that is crazy. I'll try again today and use my very accurate tire pyrometer as a backup to the el-cheapo infrared gun.

I did a 30min drive in stop-and-go local traffic so maybe things run a bit hotter in stop-and-go vs highway? My ambient was only 45°F

I can buy stop-and-go running hotter than highway - even with the difference in ambient - since there's less airflow over the engine.

I still wonder about the side-to-side variance.

Please post your oil temp also, often a 30 minute local drive won't get my engine/oil up to temp.

I wasn't sure either so I covered it first since I had scratches. I thought it was too much cf so I bought a new trim piece.

OK, re-did the test using my $$ tire pyrometer along with the $30 infrared gun. There were big differences so I boiled a pot of water and found out (thankfully) my pyrometer is 100% accurate and the infrared reads about 30°F too high @200°F but almost dead on @100°F. Time for a better infrared.

New readings - left = left side when facing car (passenger side on American cars):

Ambient: 57°F
Engine oil: 230°F (1 tick below midpoint, the warmest my car gets)

Engine cover left: 144°F
Engine cover mid: 109°F
Engine cover right: 118°F

Valve cover left: 184°F
Valve cover right: 182°F

Engine block: 226°F
Air filter cover: 98°F
Hood insulation (under the hood): 101°F
Water pump: 194°F

Did my Engine compartment today

cleaned and detailed, painted and shined the silver crossover pipe with mag wheel cleaner.

Ooohh I want to paint mine too. Thinking red. Is engine enamel the best way to go? If so, what brand and where can I get one?
