2011 3 series sedan production end?

Hi-

My salesperson mentioned something about the 3 series sedan ending production soon. It was in a voicemail so I haven't had a chance to clarify. But does anyone know when the scheduled end of production for the 2011 MY is for the sedan (and coupe) 3 series?

I think that is right but it won't probably be available until the 2013 models come to the US. I read that somewhere.

The 2011 MY end for the 335i is with the September, 2010 production. Thus, the 2012 MY will begin with October, 2012, production. **Or so I've been told; I could be wrong.**

Interestingly, that will mean the 2011 3 Series sedan (and coupe?) will have been made for a very, very long time: March of 2010 through September of 2011. That's a really long model year!

EOP for E90s is 12/11 for E92s is 8/11

Coupes are ending sooner? Isn't it usually the other way around?

Aren't lease terms better when ordering close to EOP?

You mean for the 2011 model year? I'd find it hard to belive that those are the final dates for the e90/92 before the F30 begins production--seems too soon.

MY12 is still going to be the E92/93s
MY12 will be the F30s = sedans

Guess it makes sense. They introduced e90 sedans in the spring of 05, so 7 years later would be spring of 2012, so an e90 EOP of 12/11 makes sense. 2011 is going to be one of the longest model years on record for sedans.

I think you made a minor mistake you mean to say...

EOP E90/E91 = 12/11
EOP E92/E93 = 8/12

as the coupe conv. always runs on Aprox 1 MY behind the Sedan/wagon.

No, I did not make a mistake...EOP for MY11 E92/93 is 08/11

The E-92 Coupe will end its 2011 production in August 2011, and the E-92 Coupe 2012 will begin production in September 2011. The only question is what types of modifications will be made, and the color selection. Does that clarify it?

JW, are you saying the 2011 E90 is going to have a long model year that runs until this December and then the F30 will come out in early 2012 as a 2012 model? That would be a significant change to the norm for BMW. It would be expected that this fall the 2012 E90 would come out as usual and then have a short model year with the F30 coming out in early (March/April) 2012 as a 2013 model or possibly the E90 would have a regular 2012 model year and the F30 would come out in the fall of 2012 as a 2013.

Based on what I have heard JW's info is correct. I guess it does not make sense for BMW to introduce a 2012 E90 this year (in 2011) and then introduce a 2013 F30 in early 2012. Hence the 2011 E90 gets produced until the end of 2011 and then BMW starts off 2012 with the new 2012 F30. I am glad I got a last year production E90 myself. My 135 coupe, built in October 2007 was one of the first off the assembly line headed for North America, was riddled with issues. I loved the car, but it had constant annoying little problems. I would never "buy" a new production car, but would "lease" if I had to get something that just came out. I have already told Adrian I am getting the 535d when it makes its way over here, but I ll wait until 2016/2017 when the F10 is getting ready to be phased out and then pick one up.

What BMW could do in that scenario is to build full-volume until the end of the year as a 2011 model, which creates enough stock in the pipeline to last 3-4 months until they launch the new model in the late spring. They build the 3-series sedan in a few different factories, so they could start the changeover in one while still producing E90s for a few months in another.

That still is a significant departure from how BMW has introduced new models in the past. BMW has a seven year model cycle. The E36 came out as a 1991 model and ended as a 1998 model, the E46 sedan/touring came out as a 1999 model and ended as a 2005 model, with the 2005 model year being a little short.

The E90 came out in April 2005 as a 2006 model and ran as a 2006 model for a year and a half until the 2007 model was introduced in the August/September time frame of 2006.

I have seen nothing from BMW that leads me to believe in any way that they plan to carry the 2011 E90/91 until the end of this year. Everything I am aware of indicates they will have a 2012 model E90/91 and then sometime between spring and fall 2012 they will bring out the F30 as a 2013 model, as is their custom.

Never say never. Go find me a 1996 BMW 5-series.




(I'll save you the trouble... BMW had a slightly longer 1995 model year, no 1996 model, and introduced the 1997 model early in 1996.)
