Z3 pre-purchase inspection in S. OHIO?

I'm new to this forum and am asking for help. I am looking at several Z3s... a 1997, 1999, and 2000. I'd like to have them inspected by a trustworthy mechanic before I offer to buy one of them (or none, depending on the inspection). One has a salvage title and I specifically want to know if the engine was damaged after oil drained out (it wasn't driven after that wreck and it runs now but sounds like it needs a tune-up). I live east of Cincinnati. Jake Sweeney BMW services my X3 and the BWM Store serviced the last Z3 I had back in 1999. But I'm not sure I should go to a dealer for an inspection when I'm buying elsewhere... Any suggestions? I am NOT that knowledgeable about cars; I'm just an attorney, so please help. Thanks!

Just BMW off of Ridge Ave is a very good independent BMW Service center that has been around forever. I have taken both my Z3 Coupe and 135 there and they have always done a fantastic job.
