How come nobody mentioned solid reliability? SOLID RELIABILITY should be standard in cars of this price range. (I know that Audi, MB, RR, etc. don't have it, but it's still a VERY desirable feature). I'd have no issues spending $65K on a car that I know will be reliable for a long time and won't embarrass me in front of Toyotas, Hondas, Acuras and Lexuses with rattles, electronic gremlins, and other fun things.

Don't wish for the sky. I'd settle for the reliability of a Ford, Hyundai, or Subaru. I realize that BMW's are more complex than the typical Subaru; however, for the price one would hope they could increase the reliability so that it at least equals a Ford.

My opinion:
1. Don't make it bigger, cancell 3-d row completely, for those who want spacier with 3-d row either invent new X7 or let them buy GL Mercedes or Lexus LX. BMW doesn't manufacture buses. 2. Keep it stiff as BMW always was, don't go by the way of Mercedes/Lexus. 3. X5 4.8 sometimes accelerates very good, sometimes - not, depends on it's mood. Don't let the car behave as it wants, make its acceleration as in your sedans and etc.., more RESPONSIVE to gas pedal and always!!! 4. Add the car's KEYLESS switching off option by touching somewhere its cargo door also. Sometimes u go out the car, take your baggage and want keylessly to close the car not just back door from there. 5. Add remote close of the cargo door. 6. Remove "Sport option" and keep only "M-sport option". Why should you keep 2 sporty modes when their price difference and real differencies are so minor while acceleration and maximum speed are the same? 7. Add remote car ignition on function. 8. Add refrigerator of the Lexus LX type ( it seems that it cools by air conditioning ). At the same time remove from your accesories offer an optional refrigerator that u offer now. It is stupidiest thing I ever saw. It starts cooling not immediately ( as in Lexus LX) but after 1.5-2 hours when your trip may be over (I'm not talking about an ice cream u might want to bring home). 9. Make round speed and tachometer dials and an indicators panel in general more nicer than it is now. Look at Porsche Cayenne interior in black color ! 10. Change yellow color of an instrument panel to something more attractive. Say red, blue. In general I'm satisfied with BMW X5 in Baku, Azerbaijan more than with Lexus LX or Mereceds GL even on our bumpy and bad roads. It's stiffness doesn't let the car shake so much as in the case of softer cars. And it's dimensions are perfect as well as it's outside view. Don't change dimensions at all and an exterior so much. My another thought is that if you add 5-th place on the second row of X6 ( now it is for 2 passengers) some customers might go from X5 to X6, so keep it in mind when u make plans. I've ridden only in the back of current gen X5. I would say the seat comfort should be improved. It just feels too flat and upright. It is too stiff with no cushioning, and it doesn't really hug the body in. The bottom cushion should be tilted up a bit to support legs. And the backrest is just too.... I'll just say it feels like sitting on a bench. I hope it is reclined just a bit. And it should be shaped to come in contact comfortably with the passenger's back.
As for ride quality, I didn't really have a problem back there. I wouldn't say it is an overly comfy ride but it doesn't feel too harsh either. Feels much more spacious than ML, Range Rover, Cayenne, etc. back there as well.

I don't want to drive a bus, that's why I went with the X5. However, I have 3 kids...having a 3rd row is what sold me on the X5. It's the ability to configure the car to whatever I need it to be in that moment. I looked at the Mercedes GL and the Lexus....they are ugly! I don't want a lot more room in the 3rd row, maybe a total of 6 inches. When you have the second row all the way forward, you gain a lot of room in the 3rd row, however the 2nd row leg room is then compromised. I do not need any more cargo room after the 3rd row, if I need more cargo space, I fold down the 3rd row. I don't want much bigger...just slightly bigger. I love the gas mileage, which a larger SUV can't compete with. I traded an H2 in for the X5 and the final decision to do this, even though the hummer was paid off and we weren't having any issues with it, was gas mileage & gas prices...which are only going to go up. I got the X5d and I love it. I would definitely buy a new one in several years, as long as I can fit kids back in the 3rd row. I don't need them to be comfortable as they wouldn't be back there for long, I just need a place to put them if I am driving my kids & their friends around. This is the ONLY BMW vehicle that I could have bought as it is the only one with enough seating. If they did away with the 3rd row, or did not make it slightly bigger....they are going to lose out on a lot of soccer moms! I realize that it is my price to pay as the mom of more than 2 kids, and as the one driving all the kids, that I have severerly limited myself on which vehicles I can drive. But damnit, I am young, cute and want a FUN car to drive! The X5 is fun for me! It's the closest I am going to get to a sports car until my kids start driving themselves!!
So don't ask to do away with the 3rd row....us mom's NEED this vehicle!!

If my husband found me posting pictures of myself on the internet, much less a forum full of men, I would probably never get the 328i convertible that I wouldn't mind being suprised with!

Did someone here say "young and cute"?
I have what you want, er, a 328i convertible that is... It's an absolute blast to drive and it compliments the X5 rather well. |

1.) A more comfortable luxurious ride.
2.) More comfortable seats. I got the active ventilated comfort seats and they are anything but comfortable. Also, make the seats have A/C like on Cadillac Escalade, not just ventilated. Vibrating seats would be nice. The active part is kind of useless to me. It only moves the bottom of the seat and it doesn't help with aching buttocks 3.) Touch screen navigation/stereo similar to gm's or acura's older systems 4.) Longer sun visors. What is it with Germans and short visors? Not everyone is 6' plus! My volkswagen also has short visors and it's annoying. 5.) Second row seats that fold completely flat into the floor. It sucks that you can't fold the seats and lay comfortably in the back. 6.) transmission on diesel needs work. It pauses then leaps forward all of a sudden and when slowing down it sometimes downshifts too fast. 7.) Heavier steering would be nice. A smaller diameter steering wheel with better adustment. I like to drive with the steering wheel lower and closer to the speedometer. I am unable to do so because the electric adjustment won't allow it. Ok, I think I will stop there, or I might start making some enemies on this forum. |

I currently own a X5 xDrive35i. Wish list for F40:
- larger legroom for 3rd row - aircon vs current air blower for 3rd row - option of 5 seater, 6 seater and 7 seater versions. Currently no 6 seater. - 6 seater basically leaving an aisle in 2nd row - window shade for back passengers - 2nd and 3rd rows - child lock that can be activated from dashboard just like the Volvo XC90 - air suspension/adjustable suspension - eliminate the noise problem when turning right at slow speed currently inherent in some X5s apparently due to active steering - 4 wheel steering like the long wheel base 7 series |

BMW uses the orange/reddish colored lights because it suppose to be more friendly to the eyes during night time driving. Also help with the alertness and to see it clearer. Same with the ambient lighting being orange.
