My New Toy

Picked up my new toy today. Sat at the dealership for 3 weeks while I was in the Sandbox on business. Was able to get 6% of the MSRP (thanks to zag and this forum).

Dealer was great to locate one from one of there other showrooms up North. Only down side is it has heated seats -- great for those warm Florida days.

A question -- the tires came with green valve stem caps so I assume that they are filled with Nitrogen. Is this standard BMW or a dealer add on..

Nitrogen total dealer add on...and wait until nov/dec/jan...you'll be surprised how nice the heat in seats is - I am in ft laud and my wife won't get a car without them....also nice for your back if you have strained it. Would I pay for it in Fla? probably not, but in this case, you will use it.

And another little tip - if the door says 32/35 psi for the run flats- run 33/36 - run flats last longer SLIGHTLY overinflated and there is no diff in ride. And yes , you can use air and not nitrogen to top off...

Which dealership did you use?

Used Coggin BMW in Fort Pierce, FL. They are part of Asbury Auto group.
New show room and very clean service department.

The Coggin guys are great - Dave Collona, -the Sales manager is one of the most knowledgeable persons I know about BMW....I was the BMW field sales rep that called on them a few years ago and loved going there.

Only thing I did not like was the semi-hard sell on the Lojack, extended warranty, and protection packages.

The sales experience was quick.. Two hours... and very easy. Highly recommeded.

The last time when we bought a Honda CRV and the Corvette we had to spend the day at the dealership...

Lojack???? For real?? I canno believe anyone is still pushing that...incredible... with these cars being so connected via GPS etc, Lojack is a complete rip off and margin sell. My buddy is a cop and tells me that the whole lojack process is a joke..I'd never buy.

I'm interested in hearing though what they tried to sell you on in terms of extended warranty and protection packages...I'll be picking my X3 up in a few weeks so I'm curious.

I agree.
With BMW Assist being able to track your car, why is Lojack needed?

Just leave your "I-phone" in the car and if you lose the car ask Apple where it is!

Real easy to disconnect the BMW assist.
Lojack you have to find the device. Doable but harder.

Lojack -- $895

The BMW extended warranty -- $1825 (2 extra years) details on the BMW USA site. You can buy this of course anytime during the warranty.

3rd Party Plan (from Fidelity) -- offering same as BMW but for less -- about $1500

Tire Protection. I think it was $1200 -- so you would have to go through 2 or 3 flats to make it pay on the original set of 4 run flats. Run flats generally cannot be repaired.

Interior/exterior protection. Including sealant (hmm), leather protection -- about another $1K

Very nice.

The best color combo IMO.

Interior/exterior protection? I was offered the clear plastic type wrap on front and rear bumper. What does this protection entail?

What I was offered was the usual rip-off paint sealant and leather protection that costs $200 in time and material and gives the dealer's big profit (plus nice commission to the guy selling it).

Try 100%.... however my point is that for the most part cops don't give a cr@p about lojack and according to my buddy, 9 out of 10 calls from support places (onstar, bmwassist etc) they end up finding the car b/c of the GPS or other system....

If you have Assist, any LEO with verification can get the location from BMWNA at any time. You can't, but they can.
