Ive got a 97 540i, just the last couple of days when I shut my car off the heater blower motor is still running with the key out of the car. the first few times it ran for like 10-40 secs. but than tonight it ran for like 5 mins. just wondering if any of you have had the same problem?

I am new here and don't know how to paste in links but I had heard that this is one of the ways that the final stage unit (FSU) fails. Mine failed by simply not blowing any more, and after spending $52.09 on a new one and following a how-to guide here on this site for how to replace it myself, the problem was resolved. There are much more knowledgeable and experienced people on this site, so get a second and third opinion, but I think this is the solution.

Make sure you get an OEM FSU as several aftermarket versions are known to have shorter lifespans. You'll pay a little more but you won't have to redo this later. Check BB's posts for pictures of the current FSU. They look different than the original.

I am having the same problem. Fan keeps running, and temperature not showing in HVAC dashboard. I just replaced my FSU last July 2010, and it's an OEM part !!!

Could there be another cause for my issue ? I took out the heater blower fuse for now.

Pretty good chance the year-old FSU went bad again. Not unheard of.

BeemVerg,

Sounds more like a defective IHKA control panel. Can be diagnosed with DIS/MoDIC.
