Where are the speakers?????

Hey all -

My 35i is being built now and one option I passed on was the premium hifi b/c I'll probably end up doing system upgrades at a later time. (personal preference) My question is this.... I see with the "standard" system we get 205watt amp and 12 speakers and "premium" gets you 600 watt amp and 16 speakers.... so my question is this...

Where are those additional 4 speakers located? I believe that there are 2 tweaters on the font doors by the handles right? So that makes 14...however are there also two more tweaters on the back doors by the handles? (same place as in front) This would make 16..however I just dont' remember them beign in the back door.

Also....I think this is a speaker up in the dash right? Is this with the stock system or only the premium...

Next question....were are the other 12 speakers that come standard? I just can't figure it out!!

standard audio - rear door has two speakers, same as front, and big speaker grill in center of top dash (not sure what is under there)

Ok...but where are the rest.... there are 12 speakers on standard audio... what you listed still doesn't add up...
If there are 2 on each door that's 8, and then if the top dash has grill, I'm assuming 2 under there...so that's 10. Are there 2 more all the way in the back behind 2nd row?

Also on premium I guess there are additional tweeters in the doors to make 3 for each door right?

GFQ. I took a close look around and I did not see any other speakers. I just bought the new Paul Simon CD and it sounded just fine with the standard audio. I expect BMW to engineer great driving cars. I do not expect audiophile level sound systems (like Sony or Bose?). I am ecstatic that this is the first BMW I have ever owned that has cupholders that will last for years. Past BMW owners rejoice!

I'll keep looking for those extra speakers.

Agree and very good points on the "engineering cars vs audiophile sound"...I'm sure once I get mine the last thing I'll be thinking about is a few extra tweeters!!! very true.

Yea take a look I'm curious where they stuck them all...I know the standard is 12...just can't imagine where they mashed them all in

Check out this site. It shows the location and part # for the speakers.

I think I have this figured out..... here I'll list them out:

For "standard" setup which is 12 speakers: 4 in doors, 2 in front dash (although there is 1 speaker there, inside it's mid and high), 2 under front seats (mid-base) and 4 in the rear D-pilars (again...same as dash...although there are 2 back there, it's mid/high and mid/high for a total of 4.

Premium adds the 4 additional tweeters to the doors for a total of 16.

It sounds crazy, but you have no idea how long it took me to figure this out...not much documentation out there... another user posted a link to an OEM site and it details all of the speakers.

Net net though... .on the "premium" upgrade, the only speakers you get extra are the 4 tweeters in the 4 doors (12 to 16) Originally I was told much different...hence the post.

When I bought my first X3 I got more conflicting reports of what speakers were where. Dealers didn't know, customer service got it wrong, no one knew. It wasnt until I took the doors and car apart did I find out. Crutchfield CS actually called me as no one knew. I am surprised you were able to find out.

Hope it works for you.

I'm not surprised by your story EV!!! It seems to me the more questions I ask about "the little things" that come with these vehicles, the more I find out that somehow many people just glaze over those things and have no clue what is out there.

Now...I'm going into thing thinking that the story could still change and what I think I've found out to be "true" really isn't.... I've poked around a couple of different places and I've kinda come to my own conclusion...but again I would not be surprised if I was wrong. Take a look at the below link...this was one of the sites I referenced...seems like it has things detaiiled out...but again God knows...
