Oil change.
Rather than spend over $200 on a dealer oil change on my 2006 M5
What's the difference going to a jiffy lube and making them put the high end oil in. What's special ?? Is it not still oil and filter replacement?

with my '93 850 I used to have a local in&out oil change place do mine (same place did/does my annual safety inspections) - I just needed to give 'em a couple days notice so that they could get the correct filter & oil (perhaps your local place will let you take in your own oil and filter..??) - that said, I've got an appointment to have my dealership do a change on 7 June, at my expense. I'm planning on a 4000+ driving trip to the West Coast and I've had the car over 7k miles without one. will be time for a BMW-pick-up-the-cost for another when I get back.
with my M5 I just feel more comfortable having the dealership do the change - I've also got a spare tire that I want them to check for proper fit, front and rear, while it's up on their lift - also up on a lift is a good place to check tire wear |

M motors require engine oil that is specifically developed for M engines …... 9 Quarts of Castrol 10W-60. From on-line retailers the oil and filter kit runs about $145.00 +Tax. You may have it done at anywhere as long as it's the correct oil and the shop knows what they are doing.
But if you want to go Jiffy route ….. It's your car, do as you please.

Classic BMW Plano quotes $550
BMW of Dallas quoted $260 for the same car........ Go figure, @ Mustaine can you furnish me the link to the online retailer? R |

Who's your advisor at Classic? $550 can't be right. Even Differential Fluid - Booster/583 is not that much.

whomever you spoke with didn't fully understand what it was that you wanted (an oil/filter change) because the going rate for that service at a Dealership is $200 (I've already check the price for my 7 June appointment and that's what it is) Classic BMW of Plano has been rated by Roundel Magazine as the #3 Dealership in the US (?) and I would suggest that you had some sort of miscommunication when talking with them - try again, if you're still interested in that work |

@mustaine .... Apparently it included air filter too. Known as an air silencer.

I'm confused .... the kit info I provided you has everything .... Oil, filter, gaskets, washers. Again, it has everything you need to perform an oil service.

Thanks @mustaine but while going to work the electronic dipstick read -0.1l whack freaked me out so I went to the stealer 350 for oil and oil filter change. $150 for air filter change.
Will definitely be doing self help next year. |

well just to get this correct in my own mind, I called Classic and they quoted me the price of $387 + tax for an oil/filter change - I suggest you either find some other place or do it yourself..
CORRECTION #1 I had called Classic yesterday ref the cost of an oil/filter change and a Rep just got back to me today (3pm) - he said the $387+ price is for the factory full service change, which includes other filters and services - an oil/filter only, get back on the road and go, is just under $150 Last edited by MI55LE; 05-17-2011 at 01:10 PM. |

Cool. Well, for S85 to burn oil is normal (no need to alarm unless it’s burning at a very fast rate). I would advise to always have a quart of Castrol 10W-60 handy and whenever the sensor tells that oil is low, just add less than a quart ( about 7.5/10 not to overfill). It costs $12.XX at the stealership

Does $350.00 included a full oil service as MI55LE is suggesting?

Both classic and BMW of Dallas were in the $378 range for oil change only.
The online cost alone for oil and oil filter is $145 plus tax so no way $150 is for just oil change. I paid an extra $150 to get both air filters changed. |

It's an easy DIY and it gives you a chance to take a look under there and make sure everything looks right. I can't tell you how many times I have found other things wrong while doing an oil change. Also this way you know the right oil and filter was used.
