To All New Owners of X 3

Hey Guys and Gals
I took delivery of my X 3 3 weeks ago. Getting used to the car. It is nice and I love it.

I have the following questions:

1) Did you X 3 come with a first aid kit in the compartment in the boot? The book says it does, but I did not get one?

2) If you have Navigation, does it include Canada and Mexico?

Thanks.

BMWs sold in the US do not come with the First Aid Kit or Warning Triangle unless purchased as part of the European Delivery programme (which can't be done with the X3 anyway).

Navigation is inclusive of US and Canada (not sure about MX).

+1! For some reason BMW does not include the first aid kit nor the day glo triangles even in the cars built in europe. Audi and Mercedes do include these items in their cars, not sure about european built VW's.

Does the Navigation come with a CD?
I hear each year if you want to update the Navigation maps, you need some sort of cd for the upgrade?
Thanks.

The nav is hard drive based so no nav DVDs required. I am not sure how they will handle the upgrades to the maps, it may be over the air or via a DVD.

I remember reading somewhere, that some drugs inside not allow to import here. Stupid excuse, if you ask me. Remove this #$%$ drug and add kit to each car. Chipo.
Got my with ED.

I would suspect updates will be delivered via DVD. More reliable, and frankly preferable for me - that way I can reload it if needed instead of paying $200 for and update that could get lost or corrupted, etc.
The good part is that you would only use the DVD to perform the update, and not have to leave it in the slot as with previous NAV.

I wonder how they’d copy protect that?
They wouldn’t want people to be able to buy and upgrade and then re-use the DVD to upgrade all their friend’s cars.

I had heard you need to go to the dealer for the latest software update via the computer system

Really??? Wow that's weird that they can't just flash it through BMW Assist...that tells me that it's probably a very large patch and too much to send over the airwaves like that. (Ok I work in IT so I'm getting all technical I know)

Anyway...I'd bet that's the case

The NAV comes with a CD and it is in the cargo space on the left. You do have to upgrade if you rely on it solely to get you to your destinations but in general, they are good for a few years. You may just take a bit of a longer route every once in a while!!

Before I picked up my vehicle they said they would need a half a day at least just to upload the Nav. into the system.
