What color?
So I'm looking at this M5, it's very clean inside and out. It's a 2001 and it says "silverstone" on the labeling but it's just so blue-y. Could it be blue water metallic? Possibly painted as such?

Odd as it seems, I think that's the name of the color: "Silverstone Metallic." I believe "Ice Blue Metallic" was offered by BMW in later model years on a number of models; may even just be the same color with a new (more descriptive) name...
If the 2001 M5 is anything like my X3, it's got the paint color name inscribed on one of the strut towers. Lift the hood and see if you can read it there (although you may have to do some rough translating from German...).

"Is silverstone supposed to look so blue?"

No, Silverstone looks silver. The light blue you're asking about is Blue Water Metallic.

Silverstone is slightly blue, not quite as blue as Blue Watter, but more blue than TiAg! To me that picture looks like Silverstone, but photos can be very deceiving.
Simple solution is to look inside the engine bay, on the right side (from the front) is the color code sticker, it will say what color it is.
