E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993. |

Can someone PLEASE help clear this up?
So I've been failing emissions for quite some time now. Replaced DME and got rid of check engine light and it's no longer running lean. But I'm still failing. I'm running a SINGLE 3 inch pipe to a single Universal Magnaflow Cat.
How did the Original Cat work, dual input, dual output?? Car was already 3 inched when I bought it :/ Thanks! Tyler |

Why are you still failing emission test? If you can post the readings maybe we can help you out. Need to know reading for HC, CO and NO. There should be a MAX value a AVERAGE value and a MEAS value. We need to know which MEAS value has exceeded the MAX value. At that point maybe can help point you in the right direction why you are failing the tests.

OK, post the pic and if you can give a little background description. Example; idles rough, strong exhaust smell, lack of power, high fuel consumption would help narrow the diagnostic search.

Heres the pics,
So I've basically replaced everything that has to do with emissions except for the cat. ICV, MAF, DME (which fixed it running lean, popping. and no check engine light for lambda), O2 sensor, ect. Basically anything you can think of lol. |

Be a little patient there SV650rider. Have smog diagnostic repair guide at work and will give you a definite answer tomorrow mornig. But off the top of my head, looks like the previous running conditions of you vehicle have burned up the catalyst cells in your converter. May need to replace converter, will verify and repost in the morning. Am i reading that the CO reading is high as well?

The cat is brand new, It's a universal magnaflow though.
The CO is only high because the ECU had just adapted. It was slowly going down, but NOx is out the roof! Thanks for your help! |

Thanks for the info. Will check my reference manuals in the morning and let you know. Here in California our smog requirements are real tight so will check out what info I can find and forward it to you.

I think it may be that I need a bigger converter, or 2.
My little universal is no where near the size of the dual input OEM one. The car is running perfect. It has a new MAF, O2 sensor, ICV, Vacuum hoses, Plugs, Wires, ECU (which was bad), Cleaned Injectors, I'm sure there's more I just can't think of it right now. LOL I really appreciate the help! You guys are awesome!! |

I don't know what cat part number you have on your car now, but Magnaflow universal replacement part number should be #94005. Always make sure that you warm up the cat very well before testing. Your choice of either driving 10-15 miles before test or high idling at about 1800rpm for 2 minutes just before test. Hope this has helped you out and good luck.
