I've been looking "over the fence" too.. I hate the design of the new 7er, 5er, X3, and likely the 3er..

Those senses u feel driving BMW u can never feel in a Mercedes.

Looks too much like a minivan for me... Those brown interior seats look great though - and the lighting is nice. Overall, I think the Grand Cherokee that it shares DNA with looks sportier...

I have had 3 X5 since 2006 (always leasing) and every time the leasing was due I looked at the ML as an alternative. Never liked the feel of the car and the leasing offers from Mercedes were a joke compared to BMW. I got a 2011 X5 in December 2010 and considering all things eqaul in the leasing terms (duration, down payment, etc...) the monthly payment for the ML was way higher than the X% for a car which MRSP was $6K lower than the X5. Hope things get better in the future otherwise BMW will always get my business.

I've been an avid MB owner (still own a 380SL and ML430) but my 2012 X5 is a better value than the 2011 M Class (which is the vehicle I expected to buy) . So far I'm very happy I got a BMW over the MB. To each his own. There's no right or wrong answer. Good thing we all have different likes or it would be a really boring world to live in.

I test drove the M (along with many other SUVs) before finally settling on the X5 and I felt the MB was the worst of the bunch...absolutely no standout features and boring to drive. Every time I see one on the road, I wonder if the person bothered to try anything else first, and then how in the world they decided to go with the M if they did. Aside from being boring, I thought the whole electronic interface system (whatever they've got instead of iDrive) was awful. I suppose that new one is nice looking on the outside, but I think the X5 looks better. I just don't see the draw, but to each his own.

Man, that looks ugly and large.

It would have to handle exceedingly well to overcome that misstep....

Its a redesigned car. There were rumors of a third row option. May not make it to the US. The command system is the updated version from E class? Those pictures are probably from the M AMG. The rims say AMG and you can tell with the refinement in the interior that this is not going to be the base ML.

Actually looks worse than the current model on these road pictures.

my girlfriend just got the ML.....it sucks. Interior is that of the 50s. the on board computer SUCKS!!! impossible to use nav/change. Outside it looks nice, but interior blows.

Let me know when you really find a modern car with a 50's interior. That would be well collected. lots of chrome. bench seating up front. nice leather with piping from a different color.
all kidding aside. you do realize that the ML was very dated and this new one is a redesign? the nav, computer, interior, all changed. it was last refreshed in 2005. i don't think anyone wants to buy a 2005 x5 with the 2005 idrive.

MB Looks like Ford Explorer to me.
Yesterday, drove Audi Q7 the 20inches super charged package.
That thing feels like a Bus and cannot handle like my 19inches X5 primium.

20 inches would be a pretty "super" package, although I feel that my SAV's 18 inches are adequate.
