reverse ligth switch

My 84 533i reverse lights will not come on. Where is the reverse light switch located? Bulbs are good, sockets are ok also.

On a manual trans the switch is near the top of the trans accessible from under the car. On an auto it's part of the neutral/park/back-up light switch at the base of the shift lever mechanism in the console.

check for voltage at conector in shift boot one leg should have voltage. I replaced tran. sensor but still no reverse lights turned out to be harness wires bad from boot to trans sensor.
