I doubt very seriously that BMW would change their style and start putting the side markers on the mirrors. If you look at past spyshots from the E60, E90, 1er "M," etc. you'll see that this is a fairly common camo practice for BMW.

Agreed. However, the thing that worries me is the fact that spy shots of the F30 in various colors all carry mirrors that match the body color. Would the testing division go so far as to paint temp mirrors to match the body of each different mule? (obviously it would cost them little effort to do so)

I'm hoping for the body-mounted signals as well....

I think the new 2012 BMW looks nice.....I think with the newer more fuel-efficient 4 cylinder turbo will make the car more attractive...especially with oil becoming more expensive.I will also look to compare this with the 2012 SAAB 9.3 Griffin XWD Aero. I know after reading many posts from experienced BMW owners...they like the 6 cylinder engine...but sadly...its not fuel efficient.BMW did the right move...SAAB has been doing 4 cylinder turbos for a while now...Welcome to the club.

I like the look, but I like the new 5-series too. There is a very strong family resemblence--I have to look repeatedly to tell the current 5 from the 7--but I don't consider that to be a bad thing. As for the mirrors with turn signals, given that the ones on the white car are black too, I'm guessing they're stuck on to provide more visibility to other drivers since so much of the tail and front-end signals are taped over.

So the M3 is going back to an Inline-6 but with forced induction. Hmm, interesting.. Yet they made this 4L V8 in the E9X lighter than the E46 Inline. Should be interesting to see how they make reliable power out of that IF this is true. What do you guys think?
I'd imagine that this would end up being an evolution of the N54/55 engine. Bore out the cylinders/sleeve them, up displacement to 3.3L, add obligatory variable vane turbos. intercooling, oil and trans cooling, LSD, M-quality suspension. Adjust output to achieve min 475 hp 450 ft/lbs., reduce engine redline to 7500. Within months wait for tuners to extract close to M5 level performance from the same mill. Up price from current 60k to 68k to start. Just my thoughts...think of the power people are extracting from the current N54 units with the Juicebox/Procede/Dinan devices. BMW knows that they can do this, I don't see why they wouldn't follow the same path.

In F1 they pulled 1500hp out of 1.5l engines with turbos in the 1980s so ~500 hp from a 3 liter today is peanuts. The italians think turbos are cheating and something for companies that failed doing it the right way and it used to be a bmw mantra as well. I think turbos are ok but it's hard to argue that some magic is gone with them and when pretty much anyone can pull huge power from small engines with turbos much of the allure of the companies that masters to produce NA engines with high power to weight ratio could be lost. I understand it for the regular cars but I think it's sad for the true entusiasts cars like the Ms.

Because then they'd have the M freaks jumping all over them that it's not a true M engine unless a member of the M engineering team actually went to the bauxite mine and hand-selected every nugget of ore for aluminium extraction to manufacture it

Sorry... I think I've been hanging around the 1-series M forum a bit too much...
