04 Z4, parking brake stuck.
Hi All,
When I release the parking brake but stay in neutral my z4 rolls slowly out of the garage. One time it didn't roll out. I thought it was strange but just put it in reverse and gave it a little gas. It reared up a bit then there was a small clunk, the brake released and all was well. Seem like a lubrication issue. Anyone know the lube points? Thanks Ken |

There is a 'hill hold' feature, at least on my '06, that will hold the brakes lightly on for a couple of seconds, and keep the car from rolling after the pedal is released. I've never had it clunk and/or 'rear up' though - it doesn't take much gas to overpower it. Are you using the brake pedal at all prior to release, or strictly applying/releasing the parking brake?

I don't think it's a hill hold feature. I always just release the parking brake with the car in neutral to roll out slowly (just a slight slope). The brake didn't release this one time.

If you had previously washed the car or driven in the rain, this would be due to the parking brake shoes corroding to the brake drum inside the hat of the rear brake rotor, quite normal on BMWs.
