E-box Fan Check/replace.
I think the e-box fan on my E34 530 has died. (I can elaborate on that if you really want to know.)
Has anyone ever checked and/or replaced this fan? I'm not even sure where to find it. Behind the glove box? In the engine compartment? I saw a thread for a new 7-series, but I cannot find anything for E34's. Thanks Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G using Bimmer App |

The early 5 series e 34s were not made with ebox fans It a is air cooled and houses DME control unit, Main engine relay, fuel pump relay, and 02 relay. You must be talking about fan/ blower motor. thats in the center of the dash. I think your problem may be the "Blower resistor" This part wears out After 15 years and disables the blower about $45 shipped.

Thanks Luckydog, but what about a '95? Check this diagram, where is this box located? I think that #10 is not working on my car.

Yes looks like - 91-95 has a fan at the ebox.Sorry about that ,iwas assuming since i never seen or heard it it was not there. Well at least we are both wiser for now. It does not look hard to replace, not sure why there would be a fan there. The fan is either under the ebox or behind the glove box . It looks hard to get to.

I agree - Looks like any easy fix once I get to it! I just replaced the cabin air filter, so I know what a PITA getting behind the glovebox is (and I know how to do it), but I really don't want to do exploratory surgery, and I can't find anything about replacing that fan in the Bentley manual that I have (it might be in there, and I just have not stumbled on it yet).
So, back to the original question - anyone know where this little fan is and how to get to it? The reason that I think it's gone out is that I cannot hear it anymore. I used to hear it kick on every time I started the car. It would run for about 5 seconds then click off (until it got hot, I assume), in the past week or so I have not heard it. And I'm getting strange electronic behavior in extreme heat all of the sudden. Loss of power, cruise control cutting out, etc. Let the car cool off and everything is great. The engine temp never gets over the center mark, so it's not overheating the engine. It could be that there is a loose connection, or something stopping the fan from spinning, but I have to find it before I can test it. Let me know if you have any insights. Thanks |

I don't recall if access is from the e-box or under the dash. Lifting the computers and relays from the e-box is easy enough so you see it and judge for yourself. I'm certain to have one these in my stash, let me know if you need one.
