6 Series
The BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations. |

If your replacing plugs, replace the coils. They are only $200 and if #4 or 8 coils go out later, you will be hating yourself for not replacing them when you did the plugs. They are a pain to get to.

Yeah that's what I thought too, but my plugs are good! Just replaced them about 4 months ago and I pulled cylinder 5's plug and it's good! I'll keep you posted.

HerbP, I bought a super basic model, Actron CP9125 from Advanced Auto. I found a promo code online and only paid $36 for it. The least expensive thing I've purchased for this car yet!
And yes it does erase codes as well. TxTaz...you're right! Getting to 4 and 8 is a PAIN! Not sure why I didn't just replace the coils while I was in there

So what kind of code are you pulling? If it is pointing to cylinder 5, swap one of the coils from another cylinder. If it is the coil, the problem will follow. Did you by chance check to see if the coil was pushed all of the way down.
Keep us updated! |

I pulled code P0305 which is misfire cylinder 5. The plug checked out and the coil was on tight. I'll swap coil 5 with another one tomorrow when I get back in town. That is a great idea! I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks guys! This was very helpful. My car started running rough when I started it today and immediately it felt like a coil/electrical part issue since it ran fine last night. The usual increased emissions light came on and was blinking. When I scanned my car(which I keep in the car now) it came up with a cylinder #4 misfire which leads me back to my original theory. I am just going to start with replacing the one coil for now and see how long the rest last. The car only has 43,000 miles on it now so I don't really want to change the spark plugs until at least 50,000 unless I need to.

Update!!! The coil fixed my problem and was extremely easy to get to minus having to unbolt the ac line so it would pull out.
