removing resonator only??

You really can't tell how these cars sound until we get some clips of the car moving and revving at speed.

Can someone do a drive-by video or maybe a video with take-off.

Ok guys. I gave my muffler shop a call. They said $60-$70 in parts and 1-2 hours at $90 per hour to remove resonators and replace with the x-pipe/straight pipe configuration. I read on here I shouldn't be paying more than $200 for this mod. Should I give a few more shops a call?

Does anyone know if resonator delete is reversible? I'm sure it will require rewelding. Thanks.

If I do get this done I'll take some quality videos.

$200 is a fair price and yes it is 100% reversible. The cost to reverse should be 1/4 to half of the cost to install. That is the joy of this mod. The result feels like you spent $1,000 plus and in the slim chance you do not like it it'll cost you $100 to switch back.

Make sure the x pipe is placed in the front where the first gtwo resonators are

That sounds fair if they haven't done work for you in the past. Shouldn't take but 45mins-a hour.

Man. Stopped in 2 more shops today and they nailed me with a $300 estimate. Must be the 6er...I should park it around the corner next time. I'm thinking I need to buy the X-Pipe myself. Any suggestions? Anyone know if twin resonators are coming off the cats with 2.25" or 2.5" pipe?

Send me part numbers or whatever you guys have installed. I don't want to step up diameter for flow. Keeping it as stock as possible.

2.25; a step up x-pipe means the center is bigger and looks like steps or stairs(resulting in better flow), the connecting diameter is still 2.25. $300 is pretty average. They buy x-pipes in bulk and get good deals or they bend them and weld(i don't like this method as much because the x's aren as good); your making this way to complicated

I found the magnaflow cat-back system for under $1000 today. Online videos make it sound pretty good. Anyone have videos of "resonator delete with x-pipe" drive off and drive by?

I will try and take one soon. I have rsonator delete xpipe in the front and magno flow mufflers. All in $450 and have heard whole magno flow systems and mine sounds the same

Appreciate it White drop top but I'm looking for sound clips of a 6er with resonator delete, x pipe install, and stock mufflers. That way I can see if I want the mod sound or the magnaflow sound.

If I'm doing magnaflow I'd rather preserve my stock exhaust setup and buy the catback in case I want to switch back.

Sounds good. You will love the sound

Actually, I think the resonator delete sounds much better than magnaflow cat back, and WDT their really isn't much if any difference(IMO) between the Magnaflow and stock mufflers(ie: your vs my setup)...

Everyone likes different sounds though

could not agree more. I happened to buy my can with mangno flow mufflers but would have just left stock mufflers and resonator delete if not.

I have read the entire thread. Here is my opinion/impression:
1. Resonator delete produce very nice sound and is the cheapest way.
2. Replace with magnaflow mufflers with produce deep muscle tone which many people like. Plus it reduced a lot weight.
3. The magnaflow cat back system cost $400 to $500 more, but no cut/welding involved (DIY) and dyno proven increase in HP/torque (magnaflow cat back system uses 2.5in pipe instead of factory 2.25" pipe).
So chose your system according to your need.

Just ordered the Magnaflow Cat-Back system. Figured it is worth the investment since its dyno'ed and a DIY job. If anyone is interested I picked my up for $841 off of eBay. There are still 2 more systems available that ship from magnaflow. Original price on eBay was $956 - 10% (discount for signing up for bill me later) - $19 (eBay bucks credit you receive for free) = $841

MAGNAFLOW CAT-BACK P/N 16560 ARRIVED IN THE MAIL YESTERDAY. HAD IT INSTALLED IN 4 HOURS! Of course I had a friend helping me out... and a few beer/swimming-pool breaks...

Absolutely love the smooth sound coming out of that V8 now.

Sport mode brings it to life, but if you're in the mood to cruise and keep a low profile the option is there.

I'll get videos up soon. On another note, that V8 with nothing on it from the cats back sounds MEAN.

THE INSTALL:

Setup involved a curb (used Rhino ramps ($35) to get the front end up), rolled forward til there was no more clearance underneath due to the angle, then backed the car up onto the rhino ramps.(I put 2 jack stands towards the back incase the Rhino ramps failed) This gave me enough clearance to make it comfortable and get the stock exhaust out.

Stock cat-back slid right out the back in one piece. Magnaflow setup with the hardware transferred from stock exhaust then was brought in but I left the mufflers off until the forward section was installed.

Google: Supersprint BMW 650i Exhaust Installation... The first video result shows the install of a supersprint system, what clamps to remove from the frame, and which to leave on the frame.

Nice. Vid please. How much car weight do you think you have reduced?

Clifton, good job on the installation. I also received mine today. When I alligned the parts on the floor, I noticed that the two mid-pipe are not identical. The right side (P/S mid-pipe) is bented more than the left side (D/S mid-pipe). The hangers are also not in the same position. Is my part defective? Please help. Thanks very much. kevin.

I think we have a similar problem, maybe not. When I got home yesterday I noticed that my exhaust has set and the D/S tip isn't sitting as pretty as the right side. So I got up under there and loosened the D/S and tried to mess with the clocking, but it didn't help. On top of that there is clearance issues with the D/S

I did notice how the x-pipe to straight pipe piece has one side bent further out-board. I plan on flipping the x pipe and trying to install it again. My P/S looks SO PERFECT and my driver side is clocked like WALL-E's eye... So this might not even help.

I'm already in contact with the sales agent. Not fed up with it yet... When I am its to the muffler shop to re-weld the tip on my dollar, or the manufacturer sending me a new system with paid return shipping... when pigs fly...

Clifton, I had the muffler shop installed it. The tips are symetrical. I think the mid-pipe are supposed to be bent a little differently, and one outlet of the x-pipe is purposely bent out a little.
Maybe adjusting or flipping the x-pipe will help you. I could not tell which side is up for the x-pipe during installation. There is no need to re-weld the tip. Good luck.

Don't remember which way. Will have to get it up to look, if I get time this weekend. The sound so far is good as described by you and several people.

Well I have replaced the front resonators with straight pipes and it sounds great. I plan on removing the factory mufflers and replacing them with straight pipes also but will leave the rear resonator installed.

How do you guys think it will sound?????

If you go thru this thread you will see a video of Euroowned that removed mufflers and straight piped and it is loud and raspy He changed back I believe cause it was too loud. But if that is what your looking for then go for it
