There are so many different types of trailer hitch available in the market, each one of it is used for different purposes. Choose the best which best suites your demands. I think internet is the best place to look for good and affordable tow hitch, we will find lot of options to choose from.

Any body has pics of the wiring install. I have a 2009 x5 which i will only use with the small 4 pins connector. Connector installation seems pretty easy as, 1 connectore links to the electric hitch. The other one to the Cpu but, where its seems more complicated is, there is 5-6 individual wires to connect. Any body has pics of this. It seems as the red and brown must be connected but, what about the others ? They also supply me a small black box wich, i remember to have seen on my previous x3 but, no indication on the installation sheets where thisbox connect. Anybody can help me ?

As much as I love the X5, I think it is stupid of BMW to not offer a factory option and one that looks integrated into the back bumper. Audi, Mercedes, even Lexus all offer factory hitches. Audi takes it one stop further. If you get the towing package, you get additional transmission cooling, among other things. Plus they all are integrated and look great. I don't get why BMW can't make it's SAV do that.

I have an '11 X5 35d on order and was just told BMW is out of stock on trailer hitches... they are unavailable, due to a supplier issue, and dealers are unable to order them.

This could be a deal breaker.

Our last '08 E70 3.0si had an OEM hitch that gave me tons of electrical issues, even though it had a factory wiring harness. I am nervous about an aftermarket solution.

Does that hitch require dealer software updating?

It is my understanding this is genuine BMW OEM. Therefore it needs software updating for sure if you want DSC and PDC to work like BMW intends, when you've hooked up to your trailer.

I was hoping for a factory solution, so I could depreciate it in my least.

Does anyone have a part number for the 2011 specific hitch? My dealers says there is only one part #71 60 2 156 525 for all X5s which I'm not sure is correct.

Much much better than the BMW hitch, it is 13" off the ground, not cutting of the bumper, just a minor trim of the lower silver piece, maintains the original cross member so the tow holes are still useful and just looks so much better in my book. You can either just get the OEM wiring harness and programming or do the aftermarket wiring, either way, I would do this hitch over the BMW one and you save about 300 bucks on the hitch part alone.
