Why is picking a color the hardest part?!

I'd go with Space Gray. Imperial is gorgeous in the right light when it's sparkling clean, but I bet it's pretty similar to my Sophisto in that it's a cast iron bitch to keep clean-looking! I think Space Gray would also give the car's aesthetic appeal more longevity than a strong or stand-out color.

It's hard because the colors are not great. Other mfrs have better colors.

If you are a person who cleans weekly or biweekly, Imperial is an option. Otherwise, Space Gray.

I think Jaguar does for sure. Maybe Lexus. But the German OEMs are all pretty useless in color selection in this class of vehicle. They only have dark dull colors. No colorful reds or blues (except on M5).

I think one of the reasons the color choice is hard is because of the limited number of choices, especially on the M-Sport models.

If I could get a Monte Carlo Blue or even a Deep Sea Blue, I would take one of those. But sadly BMW doesn't offer those on the M-Sport F10.

Like the OP I have narrowed it down to Imperial Blue and Space Gray also.

Imperial Blue looks very sexy when it is clean and in bright light. The Blue is really deep, and the contrast of the Blue with Oyster is awesome - BMW colors! But when it is overcast, Imperial Blue looks totally dull - like a dirty black.

Looking dull and bland on an overcast day.


Space Gray seems to look good in all lighting conditions and also hides paint imperfections. But on the other hand I associate with the 3 series. I don't view it as a color for a $80k car.

I totally agree. I was all set on getting Imperial Blue from seeing the pictures in the forums until I saw it in person on an overcast day. But then today, which was a very sunny day in So Cal, I saw a Imperial Blue drive by and it looked awesome! Too late for me though because I ended up ordering Dark Graphite II.

it seems that i'm the only one who opted for the tasman green, i got the oyster/black interior. i get a lot of compliments on the car from perfect strangers all the time. I was kinda nervous about the color, but it's unique and really quite nice....

They have a Tasman Green on my dealers showroom floor. I wouldn't think I would like a green color in a car like this, but it looks much better than I thought.

Colour is obviously a very subjective and therefore personal thing so it's what you like really. But I would agree with the person who said that you need to see it in the flesh and I would add 'and ideally in the lighting conditions you live in'. A car might look great in the bright sun of California but maybe somewhat dull in London in winter. Also national taste plays a part here I guess. For example I happen to think that big white cars look terrible and the F10/11 is no exception. However I've recently returned from a trip to South Africa where it seems that about 80% of all cars are white and in those circumstances they looked OK.

Finally why are the BMW colour choices so boring? Almost every colour is a shade of grey! I'm reminded of the spoof '70s Goodyear Tyre advert where they advertised their tyres as being available in 50 shades of black such as Anthracite, Dark Coal and Extremely Dark White.

Thanks. If I pull the trigger on this, that's what I'll get, though maybe the brown interior. I like the oyster,but it's too light for what I expect the car to be used for--young kids.
