Early buyers?

I'm just curious how many of you are considering buying the new M5 as soon as it comes out.
I was one of the guys who ordered the new M3 as soon as they were available in 2008 (ordered before official release in the US), and it worked out well for me. It's been an extremely reliable car so far, and they didn't really start discounting them for a while so I didn't feel too much like I paid such a premium to get one right away. I'm not sure I'll do the same with the new M5. I think the engine and tranny are both pretty well proven (assuming they offer the DCT right away and don't start with the SMG like the M3 did (DCT wasn't available until later in 2008, so I got the 6MT.) I'm betting the discounts will start sooner on the M5. What do you folks think?

My wife would like to buy it right away but I'll try to convince her to at least wait a year. Just me....

I don't like buying a brand new model. I waited until the final year of the E60 to buy one and have not regretted it. That said, I have funds in my investment account specifically targeted at buying an M5 in the next few years.

I'm going to wait until I can ED one. The lease on my current bimmer is up the beginning of April, so I'm 50/50 on whether to go a year sharing the wife's car (Porsche Cayenne) or do a three year lease on a 550 and pick up an M5 mid-cycle.

EDIT - Adrian set me straight on ED'ing one of these. Now I've got to think about my timelines. Personal preference would be picking one up in October but we will see.

If i didn't just buy my 550i in december i would be thinking about doing the trade to buy the new one. i am not concerned about the "first new model year" issues with the M5, as the engine, transmission, chassis, etc have all been battle tested. i have VERY small issues with my 550 (all related to the tires).

i even considered the substantial hit i will take to trade in the 2011 550 for that monster. i felt like Gollum when i saw the official press release... we wantsssss it.

My lease is up in October 2012 so I'm hopeful to put an order in sometime before then. I want an M so bad, it's just bad timing that my last lease was up just after the F02 came out and I had to have it.

M5 Estimated Lease

Question I have is what would you expect the worst case lease rate be from the dealer assuming absolutely no deals at start. Is it fair to expect it wont be worse than a 650 i Convertible. On a $93k car, they have a $7k down, 1200 a month.

You have to assume that Residual would be stronger. Thoughts?

I think mercedes are going to run them very close with the new 5.5 V8 engines.
I will see how the sales go, but at the price I am not convinced. I have the 550i M Sport and it's very close on looks and it performs great.

I've been informed that you CAN actually ED them next year though the first four months could be tough to get an allocation.

Right now I'm juggling the 550 vs M5 and Fall '12 vs Spring '13 decisions. Fall '12 is the earliest I can steal away for a couple weeks.

Having done an ED on my E90, it is the only way I will ever consider buying a BMW again. Ever.
