Thumbs up Fix for shaking front end while braking!

I just replaced the left front bearing on my 2002 X5 3.0i and it totally got rid of the shaking or shimmy while braking at higher than 45mph. I still need to replace the bushings in the front arms and the shake is completely gone, even with the bad bushings. I did the bearing myself without any special tools except a puller and a 20 ton press from Harbor Freight. Both tools can be bought for less than $300.00 and they will be paid for with this job alone and then some. I can explain the procedure if anyone is interested. The best way to determine which bearing is bad is to listen to the whine of the bearing and turning the wheel while driving over 45mph. If the sound gets louder when you turn right it is the left bearing. The opposite is true if you turn left and it gets louder the right one is bad. I have had this shaking problem since we bought the car for about 10,000 miles. The bearing was not singing initially and finally started to get loud so I could diagnose it.

Exclamation Btw

You can purchase the Timken Bearing part number of 510081 for about $80.00 on ebay from jimmydeeparts. One of his warehouses is in Warren, MI so I picked up the part myself and saved the shipping cost.
