540i cd changer not playing audio
I just bought a 2001 540i and the cd changer doesn't play any CDs. It accepts the magazine just fine, cycles through all the discs and plays the first one, but no audio comes out of the speakers. Track selection works as it should, as well as FF and RWD. Anyone know of a solution to this? I've got the DSP system and having done 7 conversions, i know that the time and $$$ required to convert to aftermarket barely balance with the end product IMHO(been doing stereos for 8+ years), especially when simply adding subwoofers would round out the overall tone.
To sum it all up, changer plays the CDs, but no audio comes out of the speakers. Lee Last edited by BLH1984; 08-13-2011 at 06:54 PM. |

Hi,
If you've been doing stereo's for 8+ years, I think you'd perhaps know to then check all the connections of the equipment, remove and re-seat them all, check fuses, and fault find each part of the setup till you find the module(s) that have failing or are failing. Then you need to evaluate if you drop the $$$ on other 10 year old modules, or getting them refurbished.... Cheers, Dennis! |

i did all the basic troubleshooting that your talking about, but the CD changer seems to be in perfect working condition in this respect. The only thing i couldn't really test is the digital coax cable, since I don't know what type of readings am supposed to be getting out of it. Which sucks because this is most likely where the problem is occurring. I was more asking to see if this was a common problem, and if there was already an accepted solution or diagnosis. Back to the drawing board i guess, and a cassette tape adapter!
