Minimum Oil level

Hey guys, has anyone had this warning come up on their cars? I've got roughly 4,000 mi on my 550 and got this alert the other day ... called service and they told me that it was not uncommon during breaking in process and I should stop by and they'd top it off. Of course I did, but was wondering if this explanation has been heard before ... not sure if that's just some spin, and I should worry about this.

Worry? Consider yourself lucky - some people have gotten the low oil warning at 1,500 miles and the dealer wants to charge them for the oil. A quart of oil at 4K is not too bad and certainly nothing to worry about.

Why would a dealer charge you for oil. I thought all parts and labor were included for 4 years/50K miles?

I too thought it was SOP that the dealer would offer this as courtesy (mine does) but it seems some dealers don't.

Appreciate the feedback ... my dealer did not charge me for the quart that the car took.

what was the warning message? did it say the level is reaching minimum?

I added 2 quarts with 6500 miles on my 550i.

I can't recall the exact msg but yes, it said something like "oil level minimum". When I went to vehicle status screen the oil level bar was at the minimum level and it asked that I add one quart. Interesting that Rick24C had to add 2 arts .... Did the warning not flash at the one art level?

I got yesterday @6071 miles on my 2011 535i. Went to dealer to top if off (free of charge. 1 quart of oil - that is what he said he put) and the level went back to MAX from MIN. I had the same message what blue11_550 wrote. I will call the service adviser tomorrow and find out if this is unusual. Meanwhile, please feel to chime in.

I had the same warning at 3456 miles? I also had a low washer fluid warning? I contacted the closest dealer (Morristown BMW) and they topped of the fluids in less than 10 minutes

Is it unusual and/or cause to worry? Did you encounter the same warning AGAIN after top-off later?

Any way, I will contact my nearest BMW dealership to see if I need to bring in the vehicle for inspection.

Just to chime in, I was "told" by my 550ix to add a quart @~2500 miles.

Since I had been reading a number of threads about people needing to add oil to their brand new car at all sorts of low mileages I bought a quart, added it and turned my attention to something else (for now at least).
