91 850i - Need technical help

Hi , evryone! Just bought my E 31 in June after 3 yrs in the hunt . Finally found what I consider a 9. Recently the left bank started acting up. Surging while at a stop; black smoke out of left exhaust. At first it was intermittent now it's like it's on 6 cylinders. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hmmmmm, having had some issues when I first picked up my L6 I know the frustration. I'm all the way across the street in Lutz but I'm always willing to lend a hand. Use the PM feature to contact me if you could just use an extra brain to think it through

Try searching Bimmerforums 8series sub-forum for Limp Home Mode or LHM

There are several potential causes but in simple terms one side of the engine is shut down by the computer, usually by stopping one of the fuel pumps if it sees a sensor input error.
It is an often discussed topic.
