Locking without the alarm

Is it possible to lock the X5 without arming the alarm (or the motion sensors)? I just realized that due to the motion sensors....I can't leave my dogs in the back with the alarm on when I park...of course I learned this the hard way with the alarm screaming in the parking lot when I came back out of the store!

And unfortunately my dogs won't be defending the car if it is unlocked...Labs just aren't good guard dogs.

I thought a second quick press of the lock button on the key disabled the motion sensor?

correct...it is noted in the manual as well. I guess I should read that first next time!
