Roof Rails?

Do the normal (regular) roof rails on the 2012 x3 28i come standard or do you have to order them either separately or as part of a package?

My dealer says that the standard roof rails are part of the convenience package. I don't see that listed anywhere, and I verify everything.

I am talking about a 2012 vehicle order (not a 2011).

Rails are part of the sport package:

ZAP - Sport Activity Package (xDrive28i) - $1,550
-- Sports leather steering wheel
-- 18" light alloy V spoke wheels - style 307 with all-season run-flat tires
-- Roof rails in aluminum satin
-- X-Line exterior trim package
-- Sports seats
-- Anthracite headliner

Is aluminum satin an upgrade from "normal" regular rails? I'm looking for just the standard rails. If I don't order the sport activity package (or any other special package) do I, or do I not get rails -- that is the question.

Is there some sort of rails (other than the gloss black and other than the aluminum satin)?

They are in the sport package (both regular sport and m sport).

So is the roof naked if you don't get sport activity or m sport packages?

Bingo Bango! There are no "regular" rails. I think they are available as a stand alone option if you don't want either sport or msport.

I always read and scrutinize every detail before ordering a BMW. Honestly, I was shocked when my X3 came in with no roof rails whatsoever. There are no standard roof rails. If you want them, you must order the aluminum ones. The way the option is worded, it would seem that the option is an upgrade to aluminum.

I also initially thought "roof rails in aluminum satin" meant an upgrade from "standard" roof rails, but as others have noted the base vehicle comes with no rails. There are actually two optional roof rail styles: "satin" and "high-gloss". For the 2012 GX, satin rails are available as an individual option (3AT, $250), or with the Sport Activity pkg. Gloss rails are only available with the M Sport pkg (which also requires purchase of the Premium pkg).
