Tried the BMW apps with just the white iphone cable provided by apple, works great. Only downside to not having cradle is not being able to connect the phone to the car antenna.

Sorry for maybe beating this topic to death, but -
I have the BMW Apps on my iPhone. It offers: Web radio, Twitter, Facebook, Last Mile and Calendar. It does not include a Pandora app. However, I can get Pandora by starting the Pandora app and using Bluetooth audio (works OK, but only allows for volume control and next/previous channel - no on-screen display). I use the white cable, not the cradle. Should there be a Pandora app as part of the BMW App?

>>> WRONG INFO: No Pandora any more on Apps.
>>> RIGHT INFO: Pandora still works with Apps.

I was using an aftermarket White Cable to connect my iPhone and
it did not support Pandora connection!

Sorry for the incorrect information!

Pandora works just fine with a cradle and is completely controlled by the car. Only problem is I can't program a hotkey to immediately jump to pandora.

That must be a F10 "exclusive" feature as Pandora works in the 3-Series BMW Apps as recent as last Saturday: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=581153

Sorry for the wrong info! Pandora DOES work on F10 but only if you
do not use a cheap aftermarket White Cable like I did.

Using Apple White Cable and 3Gs iPhone, Pandora worked perfectly.

- start Pandora on your iPhone
- plug the white USB cable in
- wait
- Pandora should show up below the BMW Apps entry in the iDrive menu
- Select it

WAIT... What!?

You can see album art using the USB iPhone cable?

I have 6NR, iPhone, and white Apple cable and cannot get album art. I thought this was a feature of the cradle.

What do I need to do to get this working? I must be missing a step.

So the bottom line from all this,
is that if one wants to have FULL functionality from BMW apps and movies
then they need to buy the cradle.
Essentially there is just no way to avoid buying the cradle if you really
want to use it for all functions.

The way that you embedded the Album Art in your iPhone music files determines if it will display or not... try this: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=571722

If you have album art on your actual iPod/iPhone, then it will work properly with the white USB cable. I think people are confusing actual USB with Bluetooth.

Technic - Thank you! I tried it this morning and it worked just as you described. Very nice.

Snap in Adapter

Does anyone know if an iPhone4 needs to be "naked" to fit into the snap-in adapter or can the iPhone be in a case? Perhaps the Apple iPhone bumpers? Or an incase slider case? I'm still waiting for my snap in adapter, otherwise I'd answer my own question. Thanks!

No room for a case... no matter how thin.

I'm not confusing the two.
With USB I don't get any connectivity. The car doesn't see the phone.

Bluetooth works (when paired of course) but I don't get album art or track info.

I'd love to know trick for getting USB to work with 6NR.

you have the ability to see the interface of certain iPhone apps through the navigator screen.
Currently, the only apps supported for that are Facebook, twitter, pandora, iTunes movie playing when the car is parked and some kind of a bmw radio thing that is awesome.

You can imagine where this can go if bmw is willing to hire some new developers here..
vital apps like email, weather, google, yahoo, photos, texting, camera interface from your car could store shots, and all kinds of apps could potentially show up on the nav. screen and be controlled from i-drive.

The challenge for BMW, is not to show up the app but rather to re-design the interaction experience of each individual app and couple it with the i-drive interface
this is needed in order to make it i-drive controllable and meet the safety 'hands free' protocols.

to this extend, it should be a major challenge to port many apps, especially web browsers

this is why I think BMW has been lagging on this, + they probably don't care much or they don't have the related development culture within their software architects group.

One can speculate that the i-drive /nav interface is made by old fashion hardcore developers, that know how to make robust Car and aircraft interfaces
(for example, can you imagine the drive interface or navigator / menu crashing?
no...never....but you can imagine an iPhone app crashing!
So robust interfaces require a particular species of developers that have been around the industry for a while using specific coding tools.
while BMW apps, requires a novel team of developers; people who will stand with one leg on the mobile platform development and with the other on the vehicle interface (i-drive)
Teams like that are very difficult and expensive to gather, but soon or later
they will be forced to do it by the trend of the industry.

What USB port are you using, glovebox or center console? If the iDrive cannot see the phone at all then your problem is way deeper than album art display.

BMW Apps Version 1.6.1 (7577)

So I just updated my BMW App on my iPhone4 to the latest version from the app store. I'm now at Version 1.6.1 (7577). Guess what? I can't get it to work with my iPhone4 snap-in adapter. Grump. It simply won't make the connection. To be honest, I haven't tried it with a directly wired white Apple USB cable. The snap-in adapter is working fine. It's charging the phone, I can play all of my music, as well as videos (DVD in motion works great!). I just can't get BMW Apps to connect.

Any/all advice is welcomed.
