1993 740i - Coolant problem

Hello everyone,
I hope I have this posted in the correct place as my vehicle is an older 7 series. I purchased a 1993 740i about 4 months ago. It was slowly leaking coolant and I would have to add coolant about every two weeks. Now it is leaking so much coolant it is not drivable. The coolant leak is toward the back of the engine. The vehicle has almost 130,000 miles on it. Is there a most likely problem? Is this something I can tackle myself? I am not a mechanic, but have changed oil, replaced plugs, etc on past vehicles. I am also very handy when it comes to home renovation. Any input would be much appreciated to this newbie!
Thanks,
Scott

I have the same make and model, The coolant expansion tank is located on the fire wall behind engine, I would remove and check the cross pipe behind the cylinder heads for any possible leaks?

Good place to start if you are you are seeing fluid leaking from back of engine.

Smile Found problem!

Thanks for the suggestion. I have been so busy I have not had a chance to look at the vehicle. I went to an independent BMW/Mercedes repair shop a while back that a friend of mine uses and that was what they instructed me to do. After removing the cover and filling the reservoir tank, I looked under the car and saw water dripping. It took me a few minutes to find the problem, but it turns out the pipe facing the fire wall (i.e. perpendicular to the fire wall) was the problem. I went to grab the hose to see how loose it was and the metal pipe the hose attaches to was completely broken. I don't know if it is something I want to tackle myself or not. BMW sure does not give much working room! I will contact the repair shop and see how much they would charge to replace it. Thanks to this website I am able to print out a diagram of the cooling hoses so I can show him exactly what is broken. Thanks for your input!
