E92 Little Storage under the Radiator...Maybe, I'm dumb!

Hey guys,

I was talking to my phone and walking towards my car (E92 M3 ED) and I noticed that a plastic is showing under the front bumper below radiator. So, I panicked and I thought something is broken.

So, I sat on the ground and grabbed the plastic, and pulled (it was loose and not connected to anything whatsoever). I pulled it out and it was this long plastic thing looking like the front windshield wipers!!! Then I touched further back, and I realized there is this little "storage" (don't know what to call it) in which there were couple of more of those "wiper" looking things "stored". I just dropped the one I pulled back in that storage and it went in effortlessly!

Am I dumb or is it something normal? What is this "storage"called? And what are those wiper-looking things? Couldn't find anything in the owner's manual and searched everywhere on the web...no luck.

Thanks!

There's no "storage" under the bumper. You're probably seeing the duct for the oil cooler. That's the smaller radiator you can see in front of, and at the bottom of the main radiator. The duct directs the hot air from the oil cooler out the bottom of the car instead of letting it enter the main radiator. There is nothing that should be stored there, especially anything loose. Maybe what you found are the seals that close off the gap between the radiator and duct. They could have been incorrectly reinstalled and came loose or left there after some work.

Thanks for the reply. I believe they are indeed seals not "wipers"

However, should I install them somewhere or they are not important? Also, that gap you are talking about...is it supposed to be like that or it is supposed to be covered? My friend's E90 does not have that gap. Maybe only for E92?!

Thanks!

I'm just guessing at what the rubber pieces you've found are and I think they must be seals. The "gap" i'm talking about (and what the seals would close off) would be between the oil cooler and the duct but I'm just speculating. I'm not talking about the opening in the bottom of the car, of course that's supposed to be open. Best to check with your BMW service.
