I thought it was an iron clad rule that there was no special orders allowable on ED cars. This must have changed recently.

It's odd to me that you can build out an Individual car and have those options fully residualzed like the rest of the car. It's gotta be a huge loss for BMW

I have seen several special orders via ED via the interwebs (was actually how I was deciding on the individual interior).

I agree, though - doesn't seem like it would be the best deal for BMW to residualize the options - but I'm not complaining at all. My M3 sedan residual is 63%

Now, I wonder if one can order the cloth/alcantara interior (a standard item in Germany) on a 3 series car. That would be absolutely splendid!

Wow, this thread came back to life.

M kit not available at that time. Probably would have passed on it anyway.

Jim, your help was great! I had an individual interior lined up as well, but just didn't have time to work with the ///M division and get the interior the way I wanted - so I cancelled the rust brown. I'll definitely post a few pics
Cool. Post pics when you get her.

As requested -- pix of the interior of my 335d. Very happy with the Saddle Brown and Piano Black trim. It's like sitting in butterscotch and chocolate.

The silver line in across the top of the black trim on the dash appears to be painted by hand, but under the clear coat. Either way, I think it's a nice touch.

We logged 1600 (in 8 days) for our ED. More pix and video to be posted to the link in my sig.

Thanks again Jim!!

In general, what are the ordering limits of this program?

You can get most stand-alone options like soft close doors, Enhanced Premium Sound, different individual woods, individual colors etc....

They are picky about leather so not sure if you can now get the Individual leather.

I'm not sure what you mean by ordering limits. Unless BMW has a particular reason to reject a specific item, in general they love it when you add extras goodies.

Can you order cloth interior if it's available in other markets such as Europe?

I doubt it. BMW will usually allow upgrades but nothing they consider a "downgrade."

It won't hurt to ask. You never know.

Actually, for a car where leatherette is standard, a move to cloth, or the cloth/Alcantara combination might be a lateral or upward move.

That aside, can you get things like different wheels, or say an M Sport steering wheel on a non-M-Sport car?

I'm using the word "downgrade" loosely. It's just that BMW insists on portraying itself a certain way and usually cloth is not in that "plan." Ironically, the average owner (not this forum of course) thinks the leatherette is really leather. Sad.

Your best bet is to go the the BMW UK site and configure a car. Once you're done there is a prinout option which I believe gives you all the option codes. Pick and choose from those option codes and present them to your dealer.

If you are fluent in German you can also do it on their site.

I was allowed any of the individual leather colors.. paint was limited though, and had to be approved. Be prepared to shell out 5K for leather (must have Nav as well) and another 5K for paint. I kind of wish I would have paid the $$ for the leather.. but another 5K for leather meant I had to give up other options, as the car was already up over 70K.. and I didn't even order the DCT..

I was told no - you can only order what's available under the individual program, or what's available from the US. I'm not saying that it's impossible - if you know the right people, and push hard enough, you could probably get it done.. but you'd likely pay a premium for some cloth seats instead of saving money

Well, I paid about $1K extra for the piano black trim in my 335d and the cost of my car wasn't reduced because I wasn't taking the original silver or walnut trim -- so, I kinda think BMW did OK on the deal. Essentially, I paid for two trim packages and received one. Fine with me.
