with that kind of budget you have to wait for 2 more years for 550i

Not necessarily. He might get a stripped 6 speed with no options, used with about 10-20k miles for that price. Or a car that has been in a major accident.

It would have to be a pretty damaged 550i I think.
The residual on my lease AFTER 3 years is $53K!

Maybe the OP could advertise for a stolen F10. That is all that he will get at that price. Or look for one that has been wrecked and not repaired.

That budget is not realistic for a 550, used or otherwise. A 535 yes.

hmmm...Kelly Blue Book Configure model - Location DC suburbs

2011 BMW 550i

Packages/Options - Cold Weather, Premium, Navigation

Condition- Good

Sale via Private Party

12,500 miles - $52,955

18,000 miles - $51,980

....$50K is neither impossible nor ludicrous - especially outside of major urban markets.

The depreciation gods can be frightening.

that's pretty hard. I got mine 535i with very basic options (Premium 1 and cold weather) with 12500 miles for $45,000 before Tax. The dealer almost didn't want to go through this.

I think for a 550i, you will need this car to have at least 20,000 miles and with absolutely no options on the car, which you can rarely find.

Your budget is really for 535i.

You are right. Definitely needs to be a private seller. with 20,000 miles or more to get to $50,000

Yeah, good luck to BMWFS getting that much for it in 3 years. It will be selling for mid to high $30s by then.

Wrong. My E60 530i was purchased for about $58K and I rejected a private party offer to buy it for $30K after 3 years. It eventually was totaled by the insurance company (water damage) after FIVE years and I got $24K for it. Depreciation on a 550i will be steep, but not THAT steep!

Hmmm...I hope you are right but I think you are very optimistic...

Perhaps history will offer a clue...

Kelly Blue Book Configure model for 2008 550i - assuming good condition.
Packages/options - Nicely equipped with Cold, Nav, Leather, Bluetooth etc.

Current trade value

- $32,000 - 36,000 miles
- $29,500 - 54,000 miles (which reflects my driving mode).

Yes - E60s take an additional hit given the change of models -
however, there is no shortage of F10s and BMW continues to push product by offering support for leases and finance.
In 3 - 4 years there will be an abundant supply of used cars coming off lease and/or financed cars moving past the warranty period.

Currently, it's a buyer's market for E60s, and the F10. I do not see anything on the horizon that will change this pattern.

Nothing cataclysmic or unexpected here - enjoy your ride - rapid depreciation of most higher end BMWs is just part of the ownership experience

I think you're right about the prices in a few years actually. The lease program does spin off a lot of inventory early on in a model cycle!
But the 2008 E60 550i is not a good comp for the depreciation curve right now because it really is a highly deprecated model given that there are F10 550i's already hitting the used market.

Aman, the ad you posted is interesting...that seems like a great price. Maybe OP wasn't too ambitious after all! It is a soft economy and if you're willing to hunt in areas like OH where the 550i doesn't sell in volume you could find a good deal.

I think most of these cars have MSRPs in the 60s.

Yeah on a average most of those cars are 65000... only way to stay immune to this depreciation is to get the car from Deustcheland
