Newbie Shark Owner

Hello all!
I was recently fortunate enough to acquire a car I’ve lusted after since high school… a 635 CSi! It’s in pretty nice shape for a 22 year old car. The interior is in great shape, save for some dashboard cracks. Not much can withstand the Florida sun for that long. I am the 3rd owner and luckily for me all the previous maintenance has been preformed at a local dealership. However, from what I can gather, it hasn't been taken there for 2 years. The only major downer is that I can’t drive it…yet! It needs a slave clutch cylinder. I was told that was the only thing it needed by the previous owner. I hope that is all it needs. The engine sounds strong and free of any suspicious noises. It needs some TLC and I aim to provide her with it!
I’ll post pics as soon as I pull them off my iPhone.

Congrats on the ride JCDillon. The 635 was a favorite of mine as well. Its the original "shark" that we still find in the 6 design of today and what sets apart this model. I kind of hate though the softening tones that they have given to the new version. New one look sort of a hammer head versus the great white older shape. Definitely post some shots of her. I wish I have the space to restore a car like that.

Some pics of The Shark...

Here are some pics of the e24
The first pic is of it coming home. A friend of mine (in the pic) towed the car transport. My 4Runner wouldn't do it (according to UHaul)
The interior leather is in good shape, being black and in the punishing Fl. heat, it shows minimal wear.
The engine is dirty! But at least it has a Strut Tower Brace.
The engine isn't the only thing that needs a cleaning. The interior was dirty. I'll clean her up this weekend.

I basically stole this car so I don't mind spending some money to get her in better shape.

Nice Pics! I was thinking of restoring one myself... There are a few here in the Northeast that look like they are worth it.

The car is not in bad shape just by looking at the picture. The BBS wheels look sweet too. If you got this S a steal then its worth putting in some money into it. I wish I could do something like that. Keep is in the loop on your restoration.

I'll do that. Next week I plan to get it to a shop that specializes in German cars. I spoke to him on Tuesday. British guy owns the shop, said he used to own a 635 years ago when he lived in England! So, needless to say he was familiar with the car. I pass the shop daily on the way to work and yesterday I noticed nothing but Mercs and Bimmers in the lot. He gets a lot of business. Is that good, or bad?

I imagine with something like a 635; if you take it to a shop that appreciates German motors and has a drop of petrol in their veins they'll look after you well...

(or am I hopelessly naive?!)

Looking forward to seeing progress on the restore - definately worth the effort; especially if it was a highschool sweetheart

Nick, I was about to ask which product would be ideal for restoring to the original BMW color so thanks for posting this . Maybe you don't have this issue on your Driver seat yet but I am seeing a slight discoloration on my drivers side seat side support. I was wondering if their product would match the color if I try to redye it. They have the BMW color listed as 08Brown. Not sure though if this is the saddle brown color that we have in our interiors.

The Leatherique guys know EVERYTHING about leather. Very knowledgeable. I assume your discoloration spot is on the left bolster where you get in and rub against it every day? I've made a habit of putting my hand over that every time I get in the car to avoid that problem.

Leatherique will be able to match the leather color. Also their Prestine Clean is fantastic for periodic cleaning and Rejuvinating Oil is great for a "twice a year" serious cleaning of the leather (it's a full day process with the RO).

The original 6ers are what got me interested in them, and eventually led to my 645. Your pics make me want a shark all over again.

Well, the 635 was a car that I always thought was so unique in its design. This one was just kind of "menat to be", as my acquisition of it wasn't something I was looking for. It just kind of happened. I am lucky to be ready to do it, a little at a time. I always thought that my first resto/project would be some sort of an American car, ie Mustang, Camaro something like that. I think this will be way cooler...certainly not as common as a rebuilt muscle car! But on the other hand, I also have a feeling it will be a little tougher. Parts avaialablilty being one of them. It seems though, that there a ton of resources out there, this forum being one of them. I'm glad I found it! I'm going to sit and check out the leatherique site later today. By the way, all of the newer 6 series you guys have are simply awesome! Those cars always got my attention too.

Yep, that's the spot. I am going to get in touch with them and see if the color would really match. I would hate to touch up and see a stark difference in the color. I've been reading up on the DIY and the products they offer. Seem pretty good.

They are. You'd be amazed at what the Rejuvinating Oil can do to an old seat.
