another noob question
Sorry, I did search though!
I know the rules have changed regarding who can come along with me. Used to be whole families could attend. I guess now its a "plus 1" so to speak. Me and my guest get to do all the fun stuff. Here's my question: Im bringing my brother with me to do the fun stuff/track time etc. But our wifes will be with us. Can they just watch us during the track time and not partake officially in all the food/fun? thanks pyrat |

Jonathan should (and I trust will) comment on whether this is OK but I don't think it is your best option. The BMW museum and plant tour is open to the public - plant tour is a small fee. You do it as part of the PCD but they could take more time in the museum and do the tour too. I bet they could get the Marriott shuttle driver to drop them there. If you have another car, downtown Greenville is also nice and they could do a little shopping and have a nice lunch. I don't see why they couldn't meet up with you at the Performance Center around 1pm or so if they wanted to take part in the delivery but I think they would not be very well entertained in the morning with the guys out on the track. The museum is at the BMW plant across the street from the Performance Center. You drive the X5s over but they could walk between these places (but you have to cross a busy street). The Performance Center has a small lobby but they sometimes use it for deliveries - that is where I took delivery of my 128i convertible.
I remember an issue with kids (unless they are the +1) but I don't know what has been said previously about whether adults are welcome to wait. I just think there are other things they might rather do. Like sleep in, spend a couple hours at the museum and plant tour. The other thing I do not know is if they could buy lunch there if they wanted to come over about lunch time. It seems like there were prices on things and I remember a register so I think they could. That would make noon a good meeting time and they might even get to do a fun ride around the track in a M5 - if you are lucky (but I don't think the PC would promise to do it). I see no reason they could not be there for the actual delivery of the car - especially your wife who I am assuming will get to drive it occasionally. Actually they probably can't do any riding because they wouldn't have signed the liability form. Jim Last edited by JimD1; 10-14-2011 at 12:05 PM. |

So basically our official policy is the program is only available for the owner and 1 guest. If the Marriott is out of shuttle room that day, the Marriott will bring just the owner's and their 1 guest in the morning. The other guests would have to come over later in the morning when the shuttles return. If you will have a personal vehicle, you all could drive it over in the morning. There isn't a place they can stand to see the entire course though. From the area they can stand outside behind the cafe, they can see the skid pad exercise, but that would be about it. JimD1 gave some great alternatives for them to spend the morning. Downtown Greenville would be a great excursion for them and could easily occupy the majority of the day without them feeling bored. They could also come and possibly join you at lunch (they would just pay for their meal). However there may not be a place to sit as they only reserve 24 seats for our delivery group. If there are a bunch of other programs taking place, the cafe can quickly become full with no seating available. Unfortunately they would not be able to ride or participate in any of the driving activities. Let me know if you have any questions. Look forward to meeting you soon!

thank you both for the responses.
Seem like then best thing to do is have just one person join me for the track driving stuff. Not sure if we'll have a car for the girls. But I have heard greenville is nice also. maybe I missed it, but it might be a good idea for someone to sticky a thread on "things to do" in and around Spartansburg. ] thanks again, looking forward to PCD. My car is past customs, but no PCD date from my CA yet. Only now am I getting anxious to reunite the car. |

You're welcome. I've got a couple of things I would like to put together and sticky to the top of the forum. I just haven't had enough spare time to put them together and to contact Tim to figure out how to accomplish that.

For what it's worth. I used the link in your sig - it directed me to the BMW PCD. I then selected "beyond the track" option, then the "discover local attractions". The link was supposed to be info on Local Spartansburg attractions, but took me to "Performance Driving Schools". A glitch in the system I guess |

Thanks for pointing that out. It appears to be a incorrect hyperlink. I've sent an email to the driving school so they can work on getting it corrected.
