Advice on purchase of 1971 2000 Touring
Advice on purchase of 1971 2000 Touring
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, I have a chance to buy a 1971 2000 Touring. The car has been sitting outside for the last several years so it has interior damage to the dash, etc. as you would expect. It runs and has been moved occasionally through the years, and I understand that overall the mechanicals are very good. It has had body work and needs some now. I plan to give it a closer inspection regarding major rust to the underside. What should I look for in terms of issues with this car. I don't expect to restore it to showroom condition but it is rather unique as I understand it was imported from Europe (that model was never imported to North America) and I haven't seen anything like it. It has potential as an occasional driver. Thanks in advance. |

You are potentially very lucky. There are not many of those cars around. For issues, you would want to look at the same things people buying a 2002 would look at:
1) rust - around the shock towers, wheel well, rocker panels, and so forth 2) engine - if working, does it smoke etc. etc. and is it in need of a rebuild - does it leak oil when sitting? 3) door and window seals - these can be pricy to replace tranny - does it grind gears etc. Interior - how bad is it, to what level do you want to restore - this can be expensive That is just the beginning of things to consider. Post some pics and people on this forum might have a better better sense of what you are looking at.

I see you are looking at a 1971 2000 - mine is a 1970 model (engine not original) good car but parts are hard to locate not impossible but certainly difficult I have been looking for tailight assemblies for ages my chrome is ok but glass is glazed. Also suspension bushes (control arm) available but rear axle mounting bush is proving to be very elusive.
