A good friend -- let's call him the Gentle Giant -- rents space for part of his fleet in a garage that has a lift. A few weeks after I got my car back in the US, we put my 550i up on the lift so we could check out all the stuff you don't usually see.

Here's some pictures, including a shot of one of his cars -- a 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 (6-speed manual).

Why can't the Bimmerfest admins have "prev" and "next" buttons for attachment viewing? Argh.

You can sense the level of engineering that is behind -or underneath should I say- these vehicles! Thanks for posting.

what I really what to know is what is this? I suspect a jacking point, but not 100% sure and don't want to be the test monkey:
In between the front wheels you will see 3 exposed pieces of metal:

What type of car is the one behind your car? It looks like a 1940's ford.

The jacking points are all outboard behind or in front of the tires and are plastic. The lift is attached at the jacking points in the OP's picks.

I think the underside of my car is a little different. I don't have the exposed metal; the two outboard sections are air scoops that protrude down below. My assumption is that it picks up air to cool the transmission.

FYI, my car is a July 2011 build 550.
