If you live anywhere near the ocean, it's definitely something to consider. Not to mention putting your left foot on the brake and your right on the gas and revving to around 3000 rpm's and then letting go of the brake never gets old. Diesels rock.
That's pretty awesome. Definitely an apocalyptic selling point :-).

It was pretty surreal. There were hundreds of cars sitting on the side of the road out of gas. I got some pretty nasty looks from people at the gas station. Made me really thankful that my buddy Glock was riding with us. Desperate people can get really stupid.

Tlon-

Good write up...

"What I expect a BMW to sound like"...interesting comment.

I was in Stuttgart last weekend and went to the Porsche museum for a half day. They had an area with a few 'sound domes' where you could listen to the sound of different Porsche motors...visceral sounds... all very different. What DOES a "BMW" sound like? My diesel sounds like a turbocharged diesel motor.

Just saying...as you point out, much of it is expectations.

I chose diesel for its torque, fuel economy and range on a tank. That's it.
