^well, hopefully, I'll find out soon if and when my letter comes. replacing the adapter plug solved my problem of intermittent warning light (which was caused by the frying of the plug, which led to loose connection), but obviously doesn't solve the overall resistance problem.

I called on this and they ran my VIN and whaddya know, no recall or open campaigns on my car. Can't say I'm surprised... there goes my free car wash I guess...
I pulled my plug and it looks just like the photo in above posts. I guess I'll be doing this myself.

BMW NA was supposed to submit a final version of their owner notification letter to NHTSA in October. It hasn't appeared in NHTSA's web site yet, and I presume no letters have gone out. They may be backed-up with a recent 5-series recall issue.

Maybe BMW Canada is ahead of BMWNA? I thought they were basically the same thing.

Possibly they are. You could check Transport Canada's web site.

So the question is how to get everyone on the same page... I'm sure it's just that some dealers run a shop better, er uh, differently than others.

According to NHTSA bmw sent letter to all dealers about recall. I would guess it is not official yet and we have to wait for letters to be sent out.

Bump.
Has anyone received a recall letter yet? BMW NA indicated to NHTSA that letters would go out to owners in October. There has been no update to NHTSA's recall web site for this issue recently. I find this delay to be very unusual.

Not out yet. Dealers know about it but we still have to wait for letter. I called bmw and they said soon. I did have my car fixed last week, paid for it, and will just ask for money back when letter comes out.

That's what I was advised to do just this morning at the stealership here in Louisville. I kept all my reipts and was assured my money will be refunded for any pars I had to purchase related to the recall. Time will tell, I guess.

I got my letter from BMW Canada some time ago, probably early November. I had this issue about 2 years ago on the right side, and fixed it myself according to the aforementioned DIY. Problem solved! I was going to pre-emptively do the same on the left side, but never got around to it. More likely than not, I'll fix the left side over the holidays. It will take far less of my time than having the dealer do it, given transportation and waiting time, but it is tempting just on the principle of making them right this wrong. Not sure whether they'll toss in a free car wash...

I suggested to them I should get a free jacket or something as they are going to get paid by BMWCA for the work I already did. They weren't overly amused by that suggestion. My problem is fixed so unless they can give me something worthwhile to compensate for the inconvenience, I won't be taking it in.

I called NHTSA today (888 number) and actually got through to a supervisor. My comment was, what's the delay? Why did NHTSA's ODI vigorously pursue this for several years, and now there's no action...owner notification letters were supposed to go out in October...
NHTSA's response was that they can't comment on private communications between them and the manufacturer, but hinted that the scope of this recall may require the manufacturer to ramp up for necessary replacement parts, consequently the delay. They only suggested to contact BMW NA regarding the ETA of the notification letters. I complained to NHTSA that an updated status should be posted on their recall web site for this recall. Has anyone done this; called BMW NA? What was BMW NA's response? Edit: I see the info in post #63..."letters soon."

I've received the recall letter today. It says they don't have enough parts and will send out another notice as parts become available.

What a joke.
They don't have the parts to run a second ground wire?!!! 1 hour labour?!! cost me $4 and took maybe 20 minutes.

Yea, it is joke but that is how it is done at dealer. If you figure it can be thousands of cars you get picture how many parts they need. |
