UPDATE: Power steering failed as soon as I got home we were lucky we had stopped otherwise I would have crashed it.
It has been taken back to the dealers and a loaner is outside.
For how long I ask?, days/weeks..............................

Really pissed off.

UPDATE;

I just can not get my head round a car (MINE) being built in week 40 still coming out of a factory with a reported fault 6 months ago Campaign no; 11V341000 NHTSA.
Fault Code: 4823A1.
Hear in the UK part numbers ( according to BMW dealerships) for the Control Module and full steering rack are NOT on their systems!!

It belies comprehension and shows that BMW have IMO gone down hill fast. This may weel be my last BMW ever.

I have been on too BMW UK again and they promise to get a result today or I order a new car with the same spec from them.

They can have a rack shipped air freight to the dealer within 24 hours if they want to. Don't let them dick you around!

UPDATE: Still waiting for this part from germany, it is supposed to arrive tomorrow
and work to start Monday, compensation has been suggested.
I will wait and see. Not enough concern shown by BMW UK for a potential life threatening fault and one which has been "On going for months".

Why would a failure of power steering cause anyone to crash a car?

I enjoy the Suspension / Steering and Performance changes at the touch of a switch.
I am looking at upping the power to 385BHP @ 756Nm.
I think it will really go then.

Unless you had Dinan do that here with their warranty, you might have problems getting BMW to pay for any engine problems, or anything else they might consider related to your uprating the engine would cause....and that might be a lot!

Tuning boxes are removable and undetectable so no problem with BMW.

OP, I'm jealous. Red X3 diesel? It must be a beast of an engine in a smaller package!
