So when exactly is the switch to the 12's? Can we order a 12 now?

Still no diesel? Bummer (I know it was a pipe dream but still)

Not bad, changed for the better for me. The MSRP for my configured 2011 vehicle is $450 more than same 2012 configured. Plus free $600 309 wheels and anthracite headliner. Over $1k price difference.

No mention of technology package for x3 - that mean it's gone or just not changed? Thanks for the info- very helpful!

I am assuming it is unchanged. Still $3200 for the package. Can anyone verify?

This is very useful info. THANKS for posting. It did lead me to wonder as to how can we order Xenons and Rear view camera on X3. Not sure if I missed it or if these are gone.

So I already pulled the trigger on my order, but it has not yet started production so hoping that my SA can arrange to have mine switched to the 2012 MY. Hopefully this will not equate to an overly extended delay...Has anyone else tried to change theirs?

Does anyone have access to a comparable dealer invoice price list or do we have to wait for Edmunds' etc?

I ordered 2011 X3 last month because my dealership told me the new 2012 wont get into production untill Oct which means I can only get my car in Nov. My car is in the end of production now and has not yet arrived the dealership. I put $500 deposit for this car. My question is if I can cancel my order and leave the $500 deposit as penalty so I can order 2012 X3 now. Thanks for any comment.

You can cancel and still get $500 back since it's a refundable deposit - although dealer will not like that.

This is retail pricing. Any sheet showing dealer cost? Better for bargaining.

Also http://www.kbb.com, http://www.edmunds.com, and http://www.cars.com now have MY2012 dealer invoice prices. From a quick check, it looks like kbb is the least wrong in permitted package and option permutations. I did not check truecar.

How accurate are the invoice prices at these sites?

This statement applies only to X3. Other models and brands may vary in completeness and accuracy among web sites.

edmunds, kbb, and truecar show all the packages and options appropriate for each model. Cars omits the premium sound package package and has a conflict between the two sport packages and the two cold weather pacakges that does not exist. None show the fees that the dealer pays per car to BMWNA for training and to the regional advertising co-op, together about $500 in NY metro. Although truecar directly, but imprecisely, discusses holdback, this is not relevant because I know of no dealer who would agree to a price so low that it would invade the holdback, which is a rebate that I believe is 2% of MSRP paid quarterly. Also, prices vary among dealers somewhat for accessories, and their installation where necessary, and for document and registration service fees. Prices vary widely among dealers for BMW branded protection plans.

Truecar is accurate. Their invoices atleast match what my CA showed me for 2011 3 series and 2011/2012 X3

All of the sites are accurate with respect to the dealer costs that they show for packages and options as far as they go. However, you can see that some sites are missing some options and if you try using the sites they may not have the necessary programming for prerequisites to certain choices, or for options BMW allows together but the site doesn't, or for options that BMW doesn't allow together but the site does. Also, these sites do not consistently show training and advertising co-op fees which are real costs per car that the dealership must recover.

To the best of my knowledge, the BMW holdback is 2% of MSRP. I have found thie issue of holdback to be irrelevant because none of the many metro NY dealers from whom I inquired would quote a markdown from published dealer invoice, which would result in sacrificing at least training and advertising costs and then part of the holdback, for an ordered vehicle. The only exception was for an end of MY2011 28i from either physical inventory or already locked-in production, none of which were suitable because I needed three 35i, all with different configurations. Production slots are assigned as either 28i or 35i. Dealers typically order a generic configuration for every production slot that they have been allocated; I suspect that every slot has a drop dead date to use it or lose it. The dealer must pay at order time. When the dealer gets a customer order, the production order gets a customer name and, typically, a configuration change and becomes a Priority 1, thereby enabling Priority 1 options. If no customer order materializes then the vehicle becomes destined for physical inventory on the lot.
