BMW Portable Navigation System

For those of us not getting the bulit-in Navigation system on the F30, is the BMW Portable Navigation system equivalent, comparable and reliable for the ED.

I honestly think its like a rebranded tom tom device. Just make sure you get one with Europe maps on it. If it is just a rebranded tom tom for twice the price, i would skip it and just get a regular nav for like 3-4 hundred

I've heard that portable navigation devices are not always reliable in extreme weather conditions. Correct me if that's not accurate. Hate to be driving on the German Autobahn at 100+ mph and having that device cut.

I would always opt for the built in nav. Do I need it? No, but it sure dresses up the interior and if you're going to live with the car for 5-6 years it's worth having IMO.
