Adding Vanos!!
Hi Guys
I have a 92 M50 engine and a 93 525I body. So here we go, I swapped the cams and vanos unit. (you have to grind the head as the vanos housing hits the casting). Added knock sensors, had to clean out alot of threads!!! Swapped out cam sensor( its different) Put it all back together, cranks like hell and tries to fire, ie fill the garage with smoke!!! So back apart, every damn wire ohm out every thing is correct. Assemble everything again, same no start. Got voltage at the coils, got fuel WTF???? I am tired as hell, and I throw in the towel for the night. I start thinking what controls timing? Crank sensor and pulse wheel, Crank sensor is good. I started checking pulse wheel, at TDC trigger teeth are different between M50 and M50tu? Same motor why would timing be different? I swap pulse wheel and she fires right up!!! ![]() She runs great ! quiet as hell . another swap complete! This make 4 total. I need to start posting all my adventures but it hard to type whilest wrenching.
