How To Play Music from iPhone 4/4S on 2008 528i via iDrive? HELP!?

I'm new to the world of BMW and just figuring everything out. I got a 2008 528i 2 weeks ago and am still settings everything up.

I have the navigation option, with the Aux and USB ports in the center console.

However, I plugged in the USB cable that came with my iPhone, and the screen says the connected USB device is not supported. WHat the heck?

I know I can play music via the Aux, but I want to play via the USB so I can select my music right from the Nav/iDrive screen instead of looking down at my iPhone 4S..

How can i achieve this? Help would be appreciated, thanks.

You need to get the cable from the BMW dealer that plugs into the center console. It's around $75. I tried another non BMW one and it didn't work that well.

Can I suggest buying a dedicated USB drive, load all of your music library on it, and leave it in the car? It will save you the trouble of plugging your phone in each time, and works quite well...

Blubridge is the way to go...

I dont have a IPOD integration, but what I did I bought a Miccus BBMR-02 BLUBRIDGE MINIJACK RX Bluetooth Receiver. I plug into my auxilary port and then I listen to my Ipod/Iphone through the BMW stereo wirelessly. This way, I still control the music via my iphone and not iDrive of course, but for me this is more efficient (put safety on the side) than doing so via iDrive anyway. I wish I had that option when I had my 2008 G35, for it would take you a whole lot of time to scroll through my 1000+ songs on the Nav screen.

As another option that MIGHT work, i had to buy a Scosche adapter that plugs between the BMW iphone provided cable and the phone itself. It takes care of the pin-redesign that hit the newer generation phones/ipods that made those older cable incompatable. It worked fine on my infiniti

Go the cheaper route and get a Y cable (do a search for BMW iPod interface cable) on eBay. Much, much cheaper. Like a previous poster stated, you can load up a ton of music on a thumb drive and plug in (beware - some brands aren't recognized by your car) and your car will play it and identify it, too. I actually like using my iPhone because it charges it as well as playing the music.

A 6fl is the y-cable you are referring to.

I only have the aux port and I bought a "Griffin" cable and my goodness the sound quality sucks! Lots of whinning etc... Does the BMW Y cable eliminate this? BMW even replaced my aux port and that did not fix anything. What are my options?

I bought a chessy 2GB USB stick on E-bay for $5.00. Loaded all my music on it and it works great on my radio!

iPod/iPhone will not play from the center console (2008 528i)

Good day,

I am the owner of a 2008 528i. Prior to about a week ago I could play my iPod touch and iPhone 4s through the BMW issues Y cord in the center console. I tried paring my iPhone with the car and was asked to enter a password into the iDrive. Since I did not have the password I cancelled the pairing. Now I am unable to play the iPod touch or the iPhone 4s through the console. When I select Aux from the Entertainment menu it just says External Audio Source and does not play. I also noticed neither the iPhone or the iPod Touch will charge.

Has anyone else experience this issue and if so what was the problem and how did you correct it?

Thanks fellow Bimmer Drivers!
