Look at any car based on numbers, and you're instantly out of reality.

Why continue to bash the vehicle? What exactly are you trying to prove here? Are you insecure that the unleaded version doesn't get a $4500 eco credit, has no dipstick, and has a worse MPG rating? How about an increased towing capacity? Notice, those weren't on the little "chart"

I think it would be quicker and more direct to create a post that simply states "I don't like the BMW diesel engine" instead of searching for a phony "comparo" written by a no-name website and "objectively" comparing/associating that to the X5 indirectly using only "specific" objectives and numbers of the vehicles. But then, it might be seen as sort of a "one sided" argument. Props on making it look legit

Give it a rest already.

Forgot the most important statistic - mpg...also, the diesel engine actually sounds like a real engine, not some soccer mom engine.

Absolutely correct.Mileage 30%+ better than gas models and the growl of that diesel is strangely...menacing.

I'm not sure why anyone is bashing anything...both the 35i and 35d are excellent vehicles. It comes down to personal preference and the biggest reason someone would buy the 35d is probably for the MPG difference and environmental impact. Other people prefer the 35i over the d for their own reasons...maybe the MPG gap isn't enough for them, or maybe it's the price and availability of diesel in their area. Or maybe they want active steering and iirc that is not available on the 35d.

Whatever the reason, it's a personal choice and people weigh their options differently. At the end of the day, both vehicles look and perform great.

The two vehicles compared are titled X6 35d and X6 35i -- 'X6' 35i shows up with 6 speeds! How reliable is this website when they cannot even get the car names and basic stats right!

I have a 2010 35d with 40k miles on it. Just had it in the shop for a minor exhaust leak issue which had been resolved by the dealership. I had driven a 2011 528i for 4 days and I couldn't wait to get back into my X5. After comparing the two vehicles, ( I used to have a'95 540i as well) there was no comparison. the X5 is a fantastic vehicle.

I'll take the Diesel over any gas version any day!

I love my X5 35d and although I have had a few minor issues with Urea system and the EGR, overall, the machine has been great and is a pleasure to drive. It is extremely comfortable on long trips and feels like it's riding on rails on the freeway. The Diesel engine has incredible acceleration and gets great mileage. I average around 24 mpg overall.

Happy with my 35d.

There are many other threads where 0428 spits against the diesel X5
I think he is trying to make his mistake of buying a gas X5 less painful and trying to convince himself with useless data that he got the right choice

I personally like the diesel over the gasoline engine; however, if others prefer the gasoline engine, that's fine with me. I don't quite get why 0428 is on this campaign against the diesel. Maybe he's in the business of selling spark plugs?

They are different beasts. Both engines are great, but for different reasons. I have the diesel and love it, but I'm sure I would have been happy with the 35i too. I had that engine (or one very close to it) in my old 535i, and HPFP issues aside, it was a fantastic engine.

OLD THREAD ALERT

Hey guys-

This is an old thread and 0428 had that axe to grind, 'back then'...more recently he's seemed resigned to letting the diesel nuts be.

Seems funny, but motors are just different- not 'better', but 'different'. Kinda like comparing a ball peen hammer to a 24 oz framing hammer. Different tools, different jobs

I bought the 35i as my wife's daily driver. But I drove both the 35i and 35d and they were both great. Personally I feel that if someone does not like the diesel then just don't buy one. The same goes for the gas version. Saying you like one over the other based purely on emotion or some need (mpg, torque etc.) is fine but there is no need to bash either motor.
