MGP Caliper Covers:
Anybody have any experience or opinions on MGP Caliper Covers:
http://www.calipercovers.net/ I was thinking about putting these on my F10 only to hide the hideous calipers and help contain the brake dust. Unlike other cheap glue-on caliper covers, these seem to be high quality:
Pricing and options for a full set is as follows:
My 1st thoughts:
Thus, I was thinking of going with just Black covers with the BMW Logo in Silver or White or Satin covers with the BMW Logo in Black. What do you think?

Are you at all concerned that the cover might interfere with the release of heat generated during braking?

This is a toupe. Better off with bald calipers if you don't have the fancy ones.

I'd go for it. Add a vinyl bra for the front-end and get some clear plastic, to wrap the seats like at grandma's house, to complete the look.

The idea is good. I too have an Alpine white with M Sport. I opened the link, first impressions are that they are a little high and the design wasn't all that. Keep looking; I am sure there has to be something else out there that may have a better fit and look. These looked a little bland and cheap to me. I am sure someone else here can suggest another company or option.
If I were to add them, I think I might try and match the color of the "M" symbal on the rim and do a blue or red color. If available, I might go as far as letting the "M" logo appear. I don't see a problem with that; I would never change the rear logo from my 535i. For one, anyone who knows a M car would easily distinguish that it wasn't a true M. However, since the M is legitimate for my package, I don't see changing or adding the logo in other places on the car. I don't see that as cheating. As a matter of fact, I am starting to look to see if some "M" logged cornering side lights exist. I was able to get the M floor mats and they look great in the car! Good luck with your decision.

Funny...
I have a AW as well...i was thinking the blue on the roundel would be a nice accent on the calipers...red to me is a bit too loud... What do you guys think? I'm probably going to paint them myself..... Aceman

Blue calipers with the M logo would be pretty awesome in my opinion.

I too have thought about it for the same reasons. Current calipers are ugly. Just want to see if anybody had tried it yet. Little expensive if they don't work out. Holidays!! Anybody want to give it a try? Waiting. I would would go with red on white car and silver on my DGII color.

I think you would be much better off painting the existing calipers with caliper paint than by using these covers. These covers are bulky and look very fake. Plus they may introduce heat dissipation issues.
Painted calipers if done well look great. You can even add a BMW decal if you want. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/susp...-calipers.html

You guys are amasing.
First you are going to change to BIG wheels, while they look good(?). After that you are goin to change brake pieces, to make the now open room in the too big wheels look good. After that, I do not know, did you plan to drive the car? Wtf, these big wheels and brake extras are not better looking, have a negative influence on the driving capabilities and cost money. A perfectly nice good driving car being "upgraded" and so done down the drain. Keep your BMW German, even BMWNA should not interfere with the normal German specs of the car. You are realy going over the top now and then and therewith diminishing the fine quality of the stock BMW 5 series. Not to mention the folies and bras and fenders you propose to add to the car, unheard of on this side of the pond..... Last edited by Sophisto; 12-19-2011 at 11:27 AM. |

Does anyone know whether these would have any effect on heat dissipation? I'd like to reduce the brake dust, but only if there are no negative effects.

Does the caliper cover trap in brake heat? MGP Caliper Covers actually reduce caliper heat. The Caliper Cover only covers the front of the caliper allowing all heat to escape up through the top of the caliper. http://www.calipercovers.com/_e/page/1005/FAQ.htm

Just wanted to revisit this. I think I'm going to get these as well. Any thoughts on what configuration (color, wording, unique art) of these covers would look great on a 550i MSport would be appreciated. Thanks.

What about black caliper covers with grey BMW lettering on them?

Have you considered getting Akebono ceramic pads if dust is the main concern?
If you live in warm climate area then these will work great. I used have them before on my E60 and they were clean for weeks.

I'm actually selling my BMW MGP RED Calipers Custom Made. Bought for $340+, selling for $260. PM me. They actually are amazing and they actually better for braking a little bit, and they look pretty good. I got tons of compliments.
