is the oil pump nut only prone to falling off on the s50 and s52 engines?

I'm pretty sure it's all M50/S50 and M52/S52 engines. It isn't really an issue though, unless you have a habit of spinning out and letting the car roll backwards while still in a forward gear.

Is oil pan replacement a common requirement on E36's?

Not common at all. Why do you ask? I mean, it's possible to damage them if you run over a substantial object (happened to a B'Fest member recently), especially on significantly lowered cars, but generally, the oil pans in these cars don't have any issues. The gaskets don't leak very much, either.

Yeah, plus unlike the E30's, the oil pan for E36's sits fairly "high" in the engine compartment. It isn't really in the killzone for lowered cars.

I had previously read about a lot of this. though I was not aware of the sway bar tab issue.
I'm half decent with a welder and can probably manage to do most of the welding reinforcement and repairs but This was very informative and a well done write up. |

I'm currently new to the BMW community and so far, I love it! I just picked up my first E36 and I can't wait to get this baby nice and spiffy.

Does all this information go for the lower model 3 series? I would assume it does, unless for some reason BMW made the M3 especially high maintenance.
