They unzip from the back.

Then you can cut the hog rings with pliers and then pull the seat covers off like a sock.

How are you doing with your leather seat project? Did you receive the new shipment yet? I could not find 'Leather L' on E-Bay. I did find 'Realleather1" out of Houston selling Z-3 leather seat upholstery for $399. Is that who you are dealing with?

That sounds like the same people.

I returned the seat covers to a texas address, but they arrived from China originally.

Awaiting a replacement set that has the loops so I can install the boning and get it secured to the seat.

I am hoping it turns out, but I have low expectations.

I may just give up and put the spare Estoril dash in the roadster. Then I would have 3 Estoril interiors.

Seat covers arrived at the fab shop today.

Hopefully I will have replacements soon.

So...... It's been a few months now since the last update. How did this project turn out? What are your recommendations for someone (namely me ) who is in need of a seat cover replacement. I've got sport seats that are sunbaked, dried out, torn at the seam and generally worn out.

When say it didn't work out? Is that due to lack of time to work on the seats... or that the replacement set also had defects that couldn't be worked around?

Basically curious if the manufacturer makes a product we Z3 owners can trust?

I got replacement seat bottoms, but never got the seat backs.

Paypal dispute refunded my money.

I gave up.

Interesting, well good to know that they don't seem to have their design worked out... at least for the sport seats with plastic seat backs. I'll stay clear of these sets. Regards

I really wanted the covers to work out, I really really did.

Looks like I am going to have to bite the bullet and get my own sewing machine.

I didn't realize that they cost over a grand for a "walking foot" sewing machine.

So the plan is to get a sewing machine as soon as I finish the projects I have already have the parts for waiting to be installed.

Then I will be making custom seat covers and taking a run at copying the extended leather on the doors and dash pods.

I think dash pods in alcantara would be really cool.

If anyone has some dash pods that were previously covered in leather that have sun damage and they don't want them let me know, I could use the pattern.

I just got my covers from the same place. i'm very impressed with the look and feel. I will be installing them in a few weeks and I hope to have pictures. I'm trying to find OEM style heaters so I dont have to cut the old ones out.

if mpire is buying a sewing machine to make his seats, you might consider doing a tonneau as well. even if you don't want to go into manufacturing tonneaus, you could sell us paper patterns.

a tonneau on a roadster is one of the handiest accessories we can add. i had one on a triumph spitfire and it was really handy. can't imagine an owner not wanting one.

What is a tonneau?

That silly cover that goes over the folded convertible top?

I have two of them, and I have never put one on the car.

Nope, it covers the cockpit. Here is the thread discussing it.

thx bob. i was looking for that thread when my computer crashed last nite. a tonneau like this may be the best accessory to add to our cars. i can't image anyone not paying $600 once they've tried one.
