745I 2002 Key Fob Problem

Hi all,

Here is a funny one for you!

my 745i (2002 model) has 2 sets of keys. they are the type that fit in to a space on the dashboard and you hit the start button to turn on the engine. They do not use standard batteries and are charges through the ignition.

Anyway, one of the keys developed an issue in that it would not lock the car, I thought never mind, I will start using the other key (which I did for a year or so). Now the other key will not unlock the car, but they both open and close the boot lid (its motorised).

I had the keys read at bmw and they said that there is no fauly and needed to have the car in to check it at over 95 per hour plus vat. Any ideas?

The buttons in the keyfobs have come de-soldered / broken off the circuit board. You can cut open the key and have someone just solder them back on (then glue the casing back together). I've done a few of them -- not difficult at all for someone familiar with a soldering iron.

You could also open the unit, solder and buy new outer shells, it will look like brand new. Simple fix.

thanks

thanks for the reply, I actually forgot to mention, in November is started to work fully on one key, then I dropped it on the floor geting out of the car and hey presto, it would only lock the car again and not unlock!

I was toying with the idea of dropping it on the floor again!
