328is Speaker Upgrade Help

I have a 328is and i love it. Unfortunately the audio system is not where I want it to be. I posted in the E36 forum section and i got a response but it was to a full system upgrade for 500 bucks... that's too much for me. I don't know very much about audio system. After doing some research I understand that 1 way, 2 way, 3 way, etc means the level of spectrum of sound i guess? That kind of confused me. I do understand bass middle and treble though and that subwoofers handle bass and tweeters only do treble and mids do middle.

What I want in my car is good quality sound with a strong bass, but I don't plan on turning up the volume enough to need an amp. I checked at Best Buy and Advance Auto Parts and they have very few options.. after researching, i think my bummer has size 5.25 front speakers and size 4 rear speakers both with a depth of 2. I would be willing to install the system myself or with one of my friends if I was sure i had speakers that would fit.

Any help? I've heard that infinity speakers are nice but they are a little out of my price range. Ive heard that pioneer aren't bad though too. thanks in advance.

With a budget of $500, you're not going to get anything that you'll like. The problem isn't only the speakers, but also the power.

Speakers + Amp > $500

If you buy a $500 quick-fix, you won't be happy with the result, so I wouldn't spend the money in the first place.

I'm not looking for a quick fix or a massive overhaul. I'm just looking to replace the speakers with something a bit better. I was looking at some Kickers for the kick panel and rear deck

Hi,

You can't have 'strong bass' by only upgrading the front and rear oem location speakers to aftermarket ones which are in the budget price range. 'Strong bass' can be provided/delivered if you use a subwoofer system/setup of some sorts, which also means using a better/more capable amplifier to power it.

So from your initial post and subsequent response here, you need to make a choice. If you are wanting 'strong bass' then you'll need to spend some more money in order to achieve it. If you aren't willing to spend the money, then you'll need to compromise. That compromise will be that you won't get 'strong bass' but you'll get a marked better performance IF you buy a powered slimline subwoofer and add that to the current setup. Powered simline subwoofers won't give as low and deep and strong bass as a proper amplifier and subwoofer setup, bit from what you are after it may just be what's needed.

Cheers, Dennis!
