E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135.

Welcome. I just moved from a 2011 GTI to a 2012 128 convertible. It is so great to be back in a car with a NON turbo engine!! The only option on my car is heated seats, so it's bone stock. My 5th BMW and I'm in love with this one.....she's a keeper! You'll love your 128!

Hold onto it, you're not likely to find many more BMWs without turbos in the coming years. Efficiency/emissions requirements are making turbos pretty much required equipment. The new 328i is a 4cyl turbo, and I'm sure that'll trickle down to the 128i when they update it.

On the plus side, the turbo 4 in the new 328i gets similar HP, more torque, and better gas mileage than the N52.

I leased the GTI because I knew I wouldn't want to hold onto that. Its a fantastic car for the price but I figured there'd be a repair bill somewhere in my future.

I love the 128 but there's going to be a slight delay. Salesman antics.

I walked away from the dealer when they gave me a purchese order with a $599 + tax "Dealer Fee" and the price on the PO wasn't the AAA price that they said they'd honor. So much for the dealer 1.2 miles from my house. I'll have to travel a whole 10 miles to another dealer who's willing to do the bottom line price by e-mail.

I will get my white 128i with the sport package and paddle shifters.

Exactly why I went ahead and got the 128 now. I was not sure how much longer that beautiful NA engine would be available. I've had variants of that I6 engine in 3 of my prior 4 BMWs and it's a great powerplant. My last BMW was a 335 coupe, fully loaded except for NAV, and unlike most everybody on this board, I really disliked that turbo engine. Sure, it had gobs of power and was great at cruising speeds on the freeway, but around town, in stop and go traffic, it had way too much turbo lag for my liking. The GTI had turbo lag as well, but not as bad as the 335.

I also got an awesome deal on the 128 ($500 below dealer invoice) and they gave me $1,000 more than I was expecting for the GTI, so everything just made sense about moving out of the GTI and into the sweet 128 cab! My absolute favorite prior BMW was my 2003 330ci convertible. The 128 feels very similar to that stellar car. Also, LOVE the rag top!

Good luck...I'm sure you'll get the car! Hang in there!

I wish I lived in CA. I had offered $500 over invoice because I was ordering then they tacked on a $599 dealer fee and the manager changed the purchase order to $750 over invoice + the 599 fee and complained that it should be $1000 over invoice plus the $599. I found out he used to sell for a Chevy dealership.

I was pretty blunt when I phoned the next dealer so I think he'll skip the car salesman antics and he's willing to price it by e-mail. If they skip the classic bad techniques I'm willing to give them a good price.

$1000 bucks over invoice on a 128 in today's economy seems a bit unrealistic on the dealer's part. The dealer I went to was offering all 128s on the lot for $300 over invoice a few weeks ago. When I approached them about the 128 I was interested in, their initial offer was the $500 under dealer invoice. I probably got a great deal because the car has no options on it other than heated seats, and in L.A., most BMW drivers want the goodies included in the premium package and a leather interior. My car was apparently a special order for a woman who ended up not picking up the car. It had been sitting on the dealer lot since October 2011.

To be honest, if I were to order the car, I would have included xenons and probably the premium package as well. One little thing I don't have on my car, which I miss dearly, is the passenger mirror that dips down when you put the car in reverse. I thought that feature was standard on all BMWs, but I guess it comes with the premium package. No biggie though. I'm also very impressed with the leatherette and the base stereo system. I'm very happy with my decision to get the 128! My 128 is also white with black interior and black high gloss trim.

I'm going back and forth on the interior. The black looks great but it could get a little hot in the Florida sun.

Very true. We'll see this summer if I regret getting the black interior!

"I was pretty blunt when I phoned the next dealer so I think he'll skip the car salesman antics and he's willing to price it by e-mail. If they skip the classic bad techniques I'm willing to give them a good price."

I was wrong. The second dealer backed out on e-mailing a quote on the car I built. When I agreed to a verbal quote we never got to the bottom line because I found out he had added in options I didn't want and then tried to slide in some more.

I'm going to extended my VW lease to give me more time to deal with these people but it's getting frustrating. I expected better from BMW but I guess car salesman DNA is car salesman DNA.

Sorry you are having such a horrible experience with your local BMW dealers. I guess I've been lucky with the BMW dealers I have dealt with. Never had them pull any tricks like you are experiencing.

EDIT: What about ordering from one of the dealers who is a board sponsor?

From looking at the forums it's a Florida thing.
